Baggage and equipment to bring

Given the climate (temperatures, rain, humidity), it’s wise to be well-prepared and properly equipped for a trip in the region. While summer calls for mid-season clothing plus at least one warmer layer for evenings or higher altitudes, the rest of the year demands warm (coastal) to very warm (inland) outfits. Don’t forget sturdy walking shoes, a windbreaker, mosquito and bug protection for early summer, and—most importantly—waterproof clothing, which is essential in this region, particularly the western part, the wettest in the United States.
