Quick Overview

Central Asian Countries

  • Afghanistan: All tourist travel throughout the country is formally discouraged due to security concerns.
  • Kazakhstan: This land, once home to nomads, is a country of steppes, forests, canyons, lakes, and even deserts and high mountains, perfect for trekking and outdoor enthusiasts. Here, nature reigns supreme in all its splendor!
  • Kyrgyzstan: A high-altitude and mountainous country, Kyrgyzstan, like its neighbors, is an off-the-beaten-path "nature-adventure" destination. Local authorities have recognized this potential and are working to develop tourism in the country, starting with the elimination of visas.
  • Mongolia: With endless forests and steppes set against a backdrop of mountains, Mongolia and its vast deserts will delight nature and adventure lovers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences.
  • Uzbekistan: While not the most visited country in the region, it remains the best-known tourist destination thanks to its landscapes and, above all, its unique "millennial cities" like Bukhara, Khiva, and Samarkand.
  • Pakistan: All tourist travel across almost the entire country is formally discouraged due to security concerns.
  • Russia: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Vladivostok, the Trans-Siberian Railway, Siberia with its harsh and endless expanses—Russia has plenty to inspire both cultural explorers and nature-adventure enthusiasts, even if traveling there isn’t always straightforward.
  • Tajikistan: Completely off the beaten track, Tajikistan remains a top destination for trekking, mountaineering, adventure, and vast open spaces in this part of the world. Sparsely populated, 90% of its territory is mountainous, with half of it at an altitude exceeding 3,000 meters.
  • Turkmenistan: Less known, less visited, and less spectacular than the other "stans," with a local government largely indifferent to tourism, the country is also largely desert, offering few tourist sites.
