Salvadoran society is made up of Whites (13%), Indigenous people (1%), and primarily Mestizos, who account for 86% of the population. Unlike other countries in the region, there is virtually no Black population in El Salvador. It’s also worth noting that over 3 million Salvadorans live abroad, primarily for economic and/or political reasons, with the largest communities in the USA and neighboring Central American countries.
