Health and Safety in the United Arab Emirates

Official Recommendations

In France, both for individuals and professionals, the "travel advice" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding precautions for each country has legal value. A similar online travel advice system exists in several countries:

Health

Diseases and Hygiene

There are no health or hygiene issues in the UAE; the water is potable everywhere, and the food consumed or sold is controlled. Additionally, no vaccinations are mandatory for the country, though keeping up with "basic vaccines" is advisable.

The main danger remains the climate, with risks of heatstroke and dehydration, or the contrast between outdoor temperatures and air-conditioned buildings. Also, during sandstorms, pollution and dust can sometimes bother some people.

Healthcare Facilities on Site

The healthcare system in the United Arab Emirates is modern and often considered one of the best in the world, with generally multilingual or at least English-speaking staff. This applies to both private and public sectors. The only notable difference is the cost of private healthcare for the patient, which makes having good travel insurance advisable. The country is also a leader in telemedicine.

Safety

Crime and Delinquency

There is nothing to fear; the United Arab Emirates is generally considered one of the safest destinations in the world in terms of crime and delinquency. However, there have been recent reports, particularly in Dubai, of online scams affecting both accommodation and vehicle rentals for non-existent offers or those well below what was advertised.

Sociopolitical Risks and Terrorism

The UAE remains a pillar of stability in the Middle East. Despite a regional environment with numerous and recurring conflicts and sociopolitical unrest—sometimes spilling over into its territory—the risks are considered relatively low. Nevertheless, situations can change quickly, so it’s best to stay vigilant and informed.

Climate, Nature, and Animals

Environmental factors to consider include heat, sandstorms, torrential rains that can flood roads, and dense fog, particularly at the beginning of the year. However, risks are minimal as long as you follow "local recommendations" on these matters.

Foreign Consulates on Site

If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country’s consular services can assist you. It’s also worth noting that if you are a citizen of the European Union and your country is not represented, you can contact any other EU member state’s representation.
