Safety

Crime and Delinquency

Contrary to what one might imagine, there is some delinquency in the Maldives. However, it is mostly confined to the capital and rarely affects tourists. Nevertheless, as everywhere, a minimum of vigilance and common sense is advised.

Scams and "Tourist" Harassment

Socio-Political Risks and Terrorism

Although the resort islands for tourists are not really affected, there are regular internal tensions across the archipelago, notably due to the radicalization of part of the population and a sharp rise in xenophobic Islamist extremism.

Foreign Consulates on Site

If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country's consular services can assist you. It is also worth noting that if you are a citizen of the European Union and your country is not represented, you can contact any other representation of an EU member state.

France

There is no national representation in the Maldives, which are under the jurisdiction of the French consulate in Colombo, in Sri Lanka.
