Official Recommendations

In France, both for individuals and professionals, the "travel advice" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding precautions for each country has legal value. A similar online travel advice system exists in several countries:

Crime and Delinquency

Crime is low in Iran and tends to target property rather than people. That said, the increase in visitors in recent years (who are required to carry large sums of cash) has led to a rise in petty crime against tourists.

Scams and "Tourist" Harassment

Socio-Political Risks and Terrorism

A regionally unstable environment with recurring tensions, combined with internal and international complexities (particularly regarding the United States), means the country is not without risks in this area. It’s best to stay vigilant and informed about your plans.

Generally, police can be quite strict with foreigners when there is potential contact with local populations, especially in urban areas and the capital.

Areas to Avoid

In addition to the many military zones to avoid, not all border regions are recommended. Those near Iraq (due to landmines) and especially the entire eastern region (Afghanistan, Pakistan) are strongly discouraged.

Foreign Consulates in Iran

If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country’s consular services can assist you. It’s also worth noting that if you are an EU citizen and your country is not represented, you can contact any other EU member state’s representation.
