Population
Over three-quarters of the inhabitants of the Virgin Islands are Black, descendants of African slaves brought by European colonists. The archipelago also has 15.5% White, 2% Mixed-race, and 1.5% Asian populations. For several years now, the territory has been steadily losing population, particularly due to emigration to the United States.

Religion
Following Danish colonial presence, the inhabitants of the United States Virgin Islands are primarily Protestant at nearly 60%, then Catholic at 34%. Other religions (Rastafarian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.) represent a small minority of around 7% of the population. That said, religion traditionally holds an important place, to the extent that the island of Saint Croix is sometimes called the "Land of Churches" with its 150 churches for just 50,000 inhabitants.
