Nature-Adventure
With the sea, beaches, and cliffs like those around Cape Greco on one side, and mountains on the other, Cyprus offers a fair amount of diversity. Still, it’s Troodos Mountains that usually draws attention for its beautiful landscapes, hiking opportunities, and even skiing on Mount Olympus.
Culture
As is often the case in this part of the Mediterranean, historical and cultural landmarks abound. You can explore ancient ruins (Choirokoitia, Kourion...), medieval architecture (Paphos centre, Kolossi Castle...), charming mountain villages (including well-known ones like Lefkara or Platres), and, above all, the "famous" churches and monasteries—some of which are UNESCO-listed—found particularly in the Troodos region.
Relaxation-Holidays
The (very beautiful) beaches and seaside resorts of the Republic of Cyprus are numerous and well-regarded. They’ve long been the country’s major tourist draw. In short, there’s plenty of choice for those who love this kind of holiday, though July and August do get quite crowded. For a quieter, less busy experience, the island’s interior—especially the mountainous areas—offers a different kind of relaxing getaway.
Independent Travel
Cyprus (both the north and south) is an easy destination for independent travellers, perfect for beginners, and doesn’t present any major challenges.
Organised Travel
Like most European destinations, Cyprus is mainly offered for specific activities like hiking or cruises, rather than discovery tours, which travellers usually arrange themselves—sometimes booking services à la carte.
All-Inclusive
This type of package is very common along the Cypriot coast, catering traditionally to British, Scandinavian, Russian, German, and increasingly French visitors. As always, if you’re only looking for a sedentary beach holiday, it’s worth checking out these offers, especially during promotions. Sometimes, the price of an all-inclusive deal can be surprisingly good—even comparable to just booking a flight on its own.
