There is a specific law, Law 171-07, for retirees or individuals with sufficient financial means wishing to settle in the DR. This law guarantees tax exemption on pension income, as well as the ability to transfer personal belongings (including one's car) from their country of origin. Various other exemptions to facilitate relocation are also included. In principle, it is theoretically possible to obtain permanent residency quickly, within 45 days of application.
