You wouldn’t happen to have a blue dog, would you? 😉

I stepped out of my comfort zone with my second series by photographing people 😊 I hesitated with this series in a documentary style, featuring these sardine fishermen in Oman packing up their fishing nets.

The nets are washed in the sea.

Then the fishermen take them far from the shore,

to spread them out and dry them.

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw your series 🙂 Like, “Let’s see… hmm… this shouldn’t be as good as with animals… ha ha, it’ll be weird scoring zero points ” But no, it’s beautiful. You really know how to use your camera.

I’ll still point out that overall, the photos are well-crafted. And if some are a bit awkward, it’s no big deal—they still tell an interesting story. The great thing about series is that if one image isn’t as strong as the other two, it still works. That’s the power of a series—it’s always more impactful than a single photo.

Voting’s gonna be tough!

The flip side of the contest, the other side here 😉 San Gerardo de Dota Valley, 6:30 AM, altitude 2200m, the quest for the Quetzal is on...

Indeed, the photographers are ready 😄... but it doesn’t feel too dreamy 😕 I get the impression there’s a point you shouldn’t go beyond?

So! Did I pass the test, Kate? 😃 But don’t worry, I’m not done surprising you yet! 😊 😆

True, the photographers are ready 😄... but it doesn’t exactly spark dreams 😕 I get the feeling there’s a point you shouldn’t go beyond?

Actually, the valley is pretty steep, with only one road running through it. But it’s famous for being the home of the Quetzal, Costa Rica’s iconic bird that lives above 1,500m. A few eco-lodges (including ours) sell you a 100% guaranteed hike to spot the bird starting at 6:00 AM—the creature avoids the sun. The hike takes you up the road in a 4x4 for about 10 minutes, where guides know exactly when and where the bird will appear... Right place, right time! And $20 per person, please 🤪 The lineup of spotting scopes is just a coincidence—no imposed limits.

That said, this valley was absolutely stunning, like a Garden of Eden.

Newbie here, but this topic raises an issue I hadn’t considered. It’s so broad that there are endless possibilities, with wildly different suggestions, and voting is going to be even trickier...

Little white goose, the topic raises an issue I hadn't considered. It's so open-ended that there are infinite possibilities, with extremely different proposals, making the voting decision all the more tricky...

I completely agree—an open-ended topic brings these kinds of challenges. We’ll have to vote based on our own criteria, with so many options: personal sensitivity, emotion, adherence to guidelines, the invitation to travel, technical quality, execution, effort, originality, intent… Everyone will have their own priorities. Good luck! 😉

I think a series isn’t just a simple selection of photos on a given theme. The series has to have coherence, which isn’t easy.

In the meantime, the slideshow is HERE. Let me know if there are any mistakes or omissions.
