Traplina photo 1 Chile 🙂🙂 Cruel dilemma: drowning or plaster?

Unamilanese photo 2 Salon de Provence 🙂 The combination of Renaissance and motorcycles—I love it!

In the end, lots of people really enjoy photographing doors 😉. It’s always tough to choose between doors steeped in history, mysterious doors, or the original (even weird) or humorous ones...

Anyway, since a decision has to be made: Unamilanese 2: 🙂🙂🙂 (I love the juxtaposition of the two eras too!) Kola 3: 🙂🙂 (but I really like the other two as well) Rouquine 3: 🙂 (for the atmosphere and symmetry).

I vote for Kola’s "Finistère" photo, so:

Hello! Some really lovely doors, some more interesting than others...

3 points - UnaMilanese-2 (fake door but what a clash of eras) 2 points - Kola-2 (a succession of arches rather than doors) 1 point - Kate-1 (a gate can also be a door)

Actually, my choices don’t include a single ‘real’ door?!

Hello

It’s less common and more challenging to photograph a door with a human element (which adds perspective and life) than to capture a door on its own, no matter how pretty it is. So I went with the "little story" option 😉

Rouquine, Iceland, photo 3, 3 points Beautiful symmetrical composition in bichrome! The tiny figure in the distance adds a nice touch by giving me an idea of the scale of these doors.

Attila, the cats, photo 2, 2 points I really connect with this image because I probably would’ve taken the same shot. Obviously, I love this scene—the half-open door, the crumbling wall, and the line of cats waiting for something to fall!

Kola, Finistère, photo 2 I love this endless row of doors... Like in Rouquine’s photo, the two figures add perspective.

Hello, It's not too late yet... my vote for this month:

3 points: Unamilanese - Photo 2 - I love this trompe l'oeil and the juxtaposition of the two eras

2 points: Kola - Photo 2 - What a beautiful enfilade!

1 point: Kate - Photo 3 - You really had to dare! It's super graphic.

Between the sumptuous and the squalid, the dormant with no openings, the wobbly frames, the enfilades, and the symbolic arches, I almost didn’t step over the threshold...

Leaving the warm light of Fontfroide Abbey (Kate_1: 3pts), I whisked Suzanne de Vacquerolles away on my Indian without batting an eye (UnaMilanese_2: 2 pts). We circled the globe in 44 photos—I would’ve happily stayed in India or Iceland, but we ended up at the Morlaix Viaduct (Kola_2: 1pt). What was the point?! 😉

Hello everyone!

Thanks for your participation and all your door photos (in this thread and the discussion one) 🙂.

The winner of October’s contest is Unamilanese with her photo #2.

Here’s the podium (I don’t think I messed up the counts ): 1) Unamilanese photo 2: 17 points 2) Rouquine 38 photo 3: 14 points 3) Kate photo 3: 13 points

Okay, since I didn’t get any clarification about the entry "Rouquine 38 photo 1 Iceland," I assumed it was indeed Iceland—so photo 3. Either way, it doesn’t change much; it’s the same podium with 2nd and 3rd places swapped. Good thing the top spot wasn’t at stake in the end!!!

So, Catherine, it’s your turn to organize November’s contest 😉.

Have a great day 🙂

Hey everyone!

Ah! (and no, I won’t add "darn" 😄) Well, thanks to those who voted for my photo of Salon-en-Provence. Glad you liked it, even though I thought there were way better ones out there.

I’m about to head off (for a trek in the rain, yay!) and won’t be able to suggest next month’s theme before Wednesday. Off the top of my head, a title by Quignard comes to mind—*Dans ce jardin qu’on aimait*—and after a quick look at Hérikles’ list, it seems the theme of "parks and gardens around the world" hasn’t been submitted yet. So that’ll most likely be the next topic.

See you soon!

Thanks for mentioning my photos in the discussion thread. I’m frustrated that I didn’t manage to post the photos I’d saved for the contest. I had several failed login attempts due to VoyageForum crashes, and then, being really busy with my family during the school holidays, I haven’t had much time to try again lately. Congrats to all the participants and the winners! 😉

Oops, I’m the one being called out 😇

It *was* the Iceland photo. But I did this on my smartphone without taking notes—it’s not easy toggling between pages to remember the numbers 😉

For sure, I prefer a big screen over a phone one too. In the end, no worries since it didn’t make much difference—at least for first place ;)

Good evening everyone,

The more I look at Rouquine’s Icelandic photo, the more I find it beautiful—with its play of clouds, rare light, the small human figure, and its absolute starkness.

For the next contest, among the topics we haven’t covered yet, which one inspires you the most: - parks and gardens, - fountains and springs, - ports, - horizontals (to contrast with the verticals from before).

?

“You won, so you decide” is also a valid answer. 😎 I’ll post the new theme tomorrow evening.

Nicely observed, Lillie—this housing project actually comes from Cape Verde, where locals have solved their food waste recycling issues 😉

I’ll also take this chance to congratulate our Italian friend, who must have set down her trekking poles by now (if you’re following along...)

As for the theme, since the winner gets to pick the next one, I won’t interfere! !

For the theme, since the winner’s prize is to choose the next one, I won’t interfere!

Yeah, especially since I doubt the topic "butcher animals" would be a big hit 😜
