Layover in Dubai with Emirates

Hi everyone, Next January, I’m heading to India. My outbound flight is with Emirates from Paris to Dubai, then another Emirates flight from Dubai to Calcutta. Could anyone tell me how the connection works? I’ve heard there’s a dedicated Emirates zone, but how does it actually work in practice—I’ve got a 2-hour layover. Thanks so much! Take care.

Hi there,

Your luggage will be checked through from Paris to Calcutta, and you’ll get two boarding passes. When you arrive in Dubai, just follow the "connecting flight" signs and let yourself be guided. Two hours is enough—anyway, if your first flight is delayed, you’ll be rebooked on the next one for free. 😉

Hi Patrick, I’ve noted your information. Follow-up question: between arriving in Dubai and departing for Calcutta (both on Emirates), are there any administrative, security, or other formalities? Thanks and have a great day

Hi, For all administrative formalities, it’ll be handled in Paris before departure—visa if needed, return or onward ticket. In Dubai, you’ll only go through security checks again between the two flights.

Hi,

You’ll receive your boarding passes at the departure airport for both flights; Your luggage will also be checked through to your final destination, so you won’t need to worry about it during your layover;

Upon arrival in Dubai, follow the "transfers" pathway; You’ll go through a light security check: don’t take out your electronic devices or liquids;

Emirates uses gates A, B, and C; Gates B and C are connected within the same terminal; To/from gates A, you’ll need to take the metro; Follow the signs—it’s well-marked.

Inside the terminal, there’s a central walkway with alternating shops, restaurants, and rest areas. The gates are located on either side of this long corridor.

No other formalities except passport control at boarding. Some gates have pre-boarding, where you’ll show your boarding pass and passport before entering the boarding area and wait there until the flight is ready.

Have a great trip!

Hi,

Dubai’s security screening isn’t “light”—it’s on par with other high-performing, modern airports. You don’t have to take out electronics anymore, and liquids are increasingly left in bags too. French travelers often find this odd because they’re not used to such modern airports.
