Je pars avec mon ami du 11 février au 2 mars 2009 au Brésil. Nous faisons Sao - Ighazu à la pousada Evelina (en avion) - retour à Sao - la côte jusqu'à Paraty - Ilha Grande - Rio (pour 1 nuit blanche le temps du dimanche du carnaval car nous n'avons pas trouvé de logement!) - Ouro Preto - Buzios - Saquarema - visite de Rio et retour sur Bxl.
Cela te semble-t-il un bon itinéraire?
Ma question c'est que nous voulons louer une voiture à Sao Paulo pour pouvoir ensuite nous déplacer à notre rythme et nous arrêter quand nous en avons envie. Mais les prix des locations sont assez chères (surtout du fait que nous louons la voiture à Sao et la laissons à Rio). J'ai pourtant trouvé une agence qui semble beaucoup moins chère : SIXT Rent a car. Connais tu cette agence? Est-elle fiable? Ou connais-tu d'autres agences bon marché?

Tout est dit plus haut, effectivement il vaut mieux éviter le carnaval, beaucoup de monde, les magasins et monuments protégés par des panneaux de bois etc...
Nous y étions en janvier 2008 en organisé et avons vu les préparatifs à Rio et Salvador de Bahia, c'est fabuleux.
Nous avons fait les déplacements en avion entre Salvador, Iguazu, Rio, le pays est grand !!!

je ne connais pas cette compagnie de location, ici a Rio il y a localiza qui est tres connue, tres sérieuse et dont les prix sont relativement competitifs .
Ton itiniéraire est tres bien mais moi a ta place je ferai sao paulo > ouro preto, paraty et Ilha Grande en autobus ça sera beaucoup moins cher pour vous et d autre part a ilha grande aucun vehicule ne peut y venir .
d autre part la conduite ici au Brésil n est pas du tout la même que en Europe, elle est bien plus dangereuse si tu n as pas l habitude de conduire il y a egalement des controles de polices fréquents sur les routes ( controle de vitesse, alcool etc )
A ta place je louerai une voiture a Rio de janeiro chez localiza situé avn princesa isabel, pret de l ancien hotel Méridien a Copababana, ensuite j irai en voiture dans la region dos lagos voir, Saquarema, Cabo Frio, Buzios ça sera beaucoup mieux pour vous et beaucoup moins stressant et dangereux, en dehors de cela tu feras de grandes économies car il y a un certain nombre de kilométrage Free en location de voiture, apres on te facture le km supplémentaire, or en louant a Sao Paulo et rendant la voiture a Rio ça va vous couter bien trop cher .
Si malgrès cela tu préféreai louer la voiture a Sao Paulo, stp faits tres attention sur les routes, ici au Brésil évite de rouler la nuit c est tres tres dangereux, ils ne respéctent pratiquement rien et encore moins les feux rouges la nuit .
Tu me dits ne pas avoir trouvé de logement a Rio, il y a des petits hôtels pas chers Rua do Catete, pret du centre ville, en général tu trouveras facilement pour te loger car il y a un grand nombre d hôtel dans cette rue et dans les rues voisines, tu pourras également trouver facilement une chambre a louer chez l habitant, c est pratique et tres sur aussi et bon marché .
Si toutefois tu aurais des difficultés pour te loger a Rio, stp n hésite pas a m écrire je ferai le necessaire pour vous trouver un hotel pas cher ou une chambre .
A Rio tu pourras plus facilement profiter de la voiture et tu pourras également visiter Petropolis ( ancienne ville imperiale ) aller au pain de sucre ou a la fôret de tijuca ( floresta da tijuca ) voir les cascades, aller au jardin botanique etc etc ..

1)quel soir est le mieux pour assister au carnaval de Rio cette année? le samedi 21/02 ou le dimanche 22? Y'a t-il encore des tickets disponibles et si oui à quel prix? ou pouvons-nous prendre le risque de les acheter sur place le jour même?
2) si nous ne passons qu'une nuit à Rio le soir du Carnaval, pourrais-tu nous donner les coordonnées d'un endroit où dormir? car l'idée est de visiter Rio et ses environs après les festivités pour être plus au calme càd aux environs du 25 février au 1er mars 2009.
3) durant cette période de l'année nous n'avons pas réserver de logement. Penses tu que cela est risqué?

le meilleur jour pour voir le carnaval est le Dimanche 22, il y a les grandes écoles du groupe A, je pense que tu vas avoir des problèmes pour trouver des places mais tu pourras te les fournir sur place, par contre tu payeras plus cher, je m informerai si il y a encore des places disponibles aupres de Riotur, si oui je ferai le necessaire pour toi, je t indiquerai une agence de voyage qui te réservera les places ..
Pour le jour du carnaval le plus sur est d aller a Rua do catete, prêt du centre ville et prêt du sambodrome ( a 10 mn de bus ) il y a plein de petits hotels pas cher, tu trouveras certainement une chambre, par contre je te conseille de faire des réserves d hôtels car en cette période c est la haute saison, si tu as une difficulté sur place, écrits moi de suite et je t aiderai ..
Si tu le veux tu pourras également louer une chambre chez l habitant, je peux rechercher ce genre de location pour toi .

la compagnie de bus S-P ;Ouro-Preto c'est Christo Rei .Peut-etre qu'il y a un site ?? je ne l'ai pas pris mais le routard indique 12 heures de route et 3, 4 liaisons par jour.
Ensuite de Ouro-preto il y a plusieurs solutions rejoindre Rio compagnie Util (environ7heures ) puis la compagnie Costa Verde (4 heures)
Nous on voulait voir du paysage et ne pas passer par Rio du coup nous avons pris un bus qui rejoignait Conselheiro Lafaiete(3 heures ) pour rejoindre la ligne Belo-Horizonte/Angra dos Reis(compagnie Util bus de nuit il part de B-H à 20h15 et arrive à Angra à 6h45)ensuite Angra /Paraty il y des bus toutes les 1/2 heures (2 heures de routes je crois)
dernier trajet pour etre complette, Ouro-Preto/B-H, il faut 2 heures et il y a beaucoup de liaison.
J'espère que c'est compréhensible!!!

je vais régulièrement au brésil et plus particulièrement à rio, la ville est magnifique avec tous ses contrastes, si c'est la première fois que tu vas à rio tu vas en prendre plein la vue, comme tu te doutes c'est la période la plus animée de l'année, fais bien attention car à cette période car c'est la période ou il y a le plus de touristes et les vols sont tres fréquent, si tu veux louer une voiture vas faire un petit tour sur autoeuropoe.fr, il y souvent des prix intérèssants, mais si tu dois rester sur rio le mieux c'est le bus la journée et pour la nuit le taxi, pour la location d'appart regardes un peu sur olx.br, homeliday, riodejaneiroappartements.fr, le plus interréssant je pense que c'est olx, à toi de voir, pour habiter chez l'habitant je ne peux pas te renseigner, comme beaucoup de personnes vont te le dire, n'affiches jamais aucun signes de richesse ( montre, bijoux, même des babioles) laisses tout ça à la maison, il y a aussi des quartiers à ne pas fréquenter, surtout la nuit mais en faisant un peu attention tu devrais passer un bon séjour, si tu veux quelques infos de plus ne te génes pas.
Pour ma part je serais à rio avec mon épouse, tout le mois de février, un peu à rio(ipanema), un peu dans les terres et quelques jours à buzios.

J'ai eu un très bon contact via ce site qui m'a proposé une chambre le soir du carnaval (dim 22/02/2009) mais c'est un peu plus loin que Copa. Cela se situe à Barra da Tijuca. Est-ce bien? facile d'accès depuis Copa? Sinon, connais tu qqun qui louerait une chambre juste pour une nuit ?
Le quartier de barra da tijuca ou j habite est relativement loin de l avenue du carnaval, il te faudrait de 30 a 40 mn de taxi pour rejoindre barra da tijuca, d autre part le jour du carnaval c est dur dur de trouver un taxi a proximité de l avenue du carnaval et quand tu vas en trouver un, malheureusement il va te demander un prix fou pour te ramener a Barra da tijuca il va sans aucun doute en profiter ..
je te conseille de trouver une chambre plus pret, ou louer eventuellement une chambre chez l habitant .
trajet Copa > barra da tijuca en periode normale = 40 mn de bus ou 35 mn de van ou 35 mn de taxi
distance barra da tijuca a Copa = +/- 45 km
prix normal du trajet en bus = 2, 50 reais
van = 5, 00
taxi = +/- 45 a 50 rs
le quartier de Barra est un quartier neuf, c est calme, tu y trouveras de tout mais par contre pour te deplacer dans le quartier c est conseillable d avoir une voiture .
question securité le jour du carnaval :
1) attention a ton appareil photo en sortant du sambodrome .
2) evite de sortir avec tes documents originaux, carte d identité, passeport etc ... seulement des photocopies
3) evite de sortir avec beaucoup d argent mais seulement des reais ..pas d euros, pour l argent cache le sur toi .
4) si tu te fais aborder par les enfants de rue, stp attention, ne les traite pas mal, donne une piece de un real pas plus et ne montre pas sous aucun pretexte ton argent
5) ne te promene pas avec ton appareil pendu en bandoulliere
6) si tu as des difficultés, pour te diriger vers un taxi, demande a un policier de vous accompagner jusque au taxi, remercie le policier en lui donnant 10 ou 20 reais, ( disons pour ses bons services ...) d un autre coté le chauffeur de taxi hesitera pour se profiter du prix de la course ( eh oui ...)
7) carte de credit / debit ; meme chose que l argent cache les sur toi .
si tu veux mon nr de tel ou portable demande moi le via messagerie privée, j habite barra da tijuca, en cas de difficulté je vous aiderai ..

We love beautiful nature and authentic experiences, not so much the touristy spots... even though those spots are often in beautiful places, we’d rather avoid them.

I’m planning a trip with my partner (no kids this time—thanks, Grandma!) for two weeks to celebrate her 40th birthday. I’ve been thinking about Chile. We’re looking at leaving around September 18, 2027, starting in the south and returning in early April.
Here’s what I had in mind:
8 nights in a van in the Lake District and the start of the Carretera Austral (up to the Chaitén area). We’re set to arrive in Puerto Montt around 2:00 PM. We don’t want to go too far south since we’re planning to explore the heart of Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) with the kids when they’re older. The idea is to spend 3 nights discovering the lakes (up to Cochamó) and 3 nights in Pumalín Park. I’ve also added two transition nights.
7 nights in the Atacama to experience another side of Chile (San Pedro), taking a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Calama in the early afternoon. We’ll depart for France in the early evening from Santiago.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for those planning to take a bus to another city, state, or destination from Salvador!
Starting January 20, 2026, the intercity bus station Rodoviária is changing its address!
The Rodoviária is leaving the Iguatemi area and will now be located in ÁGUAS CLARAS (about twenty kilometers from downtown Salvador).
A brand-new station (the most modern in Brazil) has just been set up there, accessible by car/taxi/Uber/metro.
Allow for much more transfer time (especially during rush hours), so leave early if you're heading to Chapada Diamantina or other Brazilian cities by bus.
Remember, there are also private transfers (even French-speaking ones) that can take you directly from your hotel in Salvador to your hotel in Chapada. Sure, it’ll be more expensive, but you’ll save on transfer time and comfort.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.

Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...
I’ve seen that we can stop over in San Antonio de los Cobres.

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
