Hi Martine, Yeah, the end of a travel journal is always the very end of the adventure—it’s always a little sad. But maybe you’ll enjoy rereading it from time to time. Thanks for taking the time to write it with humor and so many details, and especially for illustrating it with so many photos. Now you can dive into a new project, which, I hope, will lead you to discover even more beautiful places. Cheers, Franรงoise.

Hi Martine. Here I am at last..... yes, yes, I followed your "undercover" travel journal..... I know, not great...... but we're in the middle of prepping for our trip from mid-May to July 6th.... We were ready to free Maumau from his "toilets" since we’ll be there at the end of May. He could’ve joined us for the rest of the road trip...... too late, he’s back in France..... Thanks again for all that amazing writing and gorgeous photos.... just great work...

Where will you be heading in September???? Sonia

Hi Martine,

Congrats on this amazing 2019 travel journal—gorgeous photos and such a friendly writing style that makes us all want to go back to the States we love so much on this forum. It’s a lot of work... personally, I don’t keep a journal, but I always take the time to read them, so see you at the end of the year for the Colorado travel journal!

Safe travels with your prep—you never slow down, no sooner finished than you’re diving back in! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚ Just a little note to thank you for your recent kind posts: Katia: I’ll check out your travel journal—I’ve already started following it. Gilles: It’s true that ending with Painted Mines let us dream during the flight. I wish you plenty of wonderful trips, even if they’re in other corners of our good old Earth. If I make a journal about Colorado in the fall and don’t see you in the posts, I’ll honk at you in a PM to let you know. Christine: Thanks to you, we’ve already swapped Telluride for Monticello to do the Chesler Park hike (the one from Charlotte and Nico’s journal) in September. A thousand thanks for your always-quick answers to my thousand questions. Noรซlle: It’s thanks to you that I added the incredible Medicine Wheels to our tour. Fabien: Don’t worry, there’s a good chance that mischief and pranks will be part of our next trips, especially since some corners of the Northwest are calling to us, and our dear Mimi and Maumau will be joining us. Guillaume: As we always say, the one who plans the road trip and makes the journal experiences the trip three times over. As a retiree, reading your journals packed with info and great tips fills my days with joy, but unlike some who leave a lot to improvisation, I need serious preparation to feel good. Laurent: This journal allowed me to return to the United States for a few weeks and, above all, gave me the chance to go back whenever I want. Audrey: I’ll take a look at your journals to revisit the beautiful things we saw in Hawaii. Franรงoise: I’ll seriously start preparing our September trip when we get back from Guadeloupe at the end of March. Just like with Christine, I’ve used and abused your time with all my questions to plan it. Thank you so much. Sylvie: You also gave me some great tips. I’ll definitely reach out for help when I plan our trip to the North. Sonia: Good luck with your preparation. Almost two months there is going to be amazing!!! Our next trip will mainly be about discovering Colorado, with a little 5-night detour to the Moab area. The flight, car, and all accommodations are booked—now we just need to plan the daily schedule. Mystery internet user: A thousand thanks to the person I’ve bugged a lot in PMs and who always kindly answered my questions. Thanks to everyone, especially those I may have forgotten!!! Here’s our final itinerary with our changes (September 9–30): Manitou Springs (arrival in Denver at 1:30 PM) Manitou Springs Cripple Creek Salida Great Sand Dunes (we managed to get a room at the lodge) Lake City Ouray Ouray Durango (we dropped the train idea—too time-consuming and 7 hours is too long) Mancos Monticello Moab Moab Moab Moab Fruita Crested Butte Crested Butte Glenwood Springs Glenwood Springs Idaho Springs Departure from Denver at 5:30 PM Have a great afternoon, everyone! Hi Martine! We’ll also be passing through Colorado and Moab in May. If you’d like, I’ll keep a live travel journal on Memotrips... you can follow along for the different sights and hikes. SONIA

Hi Martine, We finished our travel journals at almost the same time (but I started way before you—I was really, really slow this time! !๐Ÿ˜„). Thanks for your cheerful story; it was a pleasure following along with you!

to do the Chesler Park hike (the one from Charlotte and Nico’s travel journal) in September.

For your next trip, if you want to read another account of the Chesler Park hike, you can check out (or maybe re-read ๐Ÿ˜‰) our 2018 trip. Happy planning! !

Hi Christine, sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, but I’ll be able to dive back into planning this trip now that I know I can actually do it! So I’ll try to find that site—fingers crossed there’s one available in June, that’d be amazing! Thanks!

Hi there! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sonia, I love your live travel journal idea!!! I’m so lucky—I’ll get day-by-day updates!!! Just remind me when the time comes, okay? Thanks so much for the sweet offer. Peggy: I’ll be able to read your travel journals while lounging in my hammock when I’m woken up by roosters in Guadeloupe because of jet lag. Have a great weekend! Martine ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Martine,

Hyacinthe passed along your travel journal. We did part of your route, and I have to say, I really loved the Badlands. We had the place to ourselves, and that view totally enchanted us...

I’ll continue...

Hey girls! ๐Ÿ™‚ Marie Benoรฎte: I’d read your travel journals while prepping and picked up some great tips. Oh, the Badlands!!! They were so beautiful. Christine: It’s 5:45 AM here, and I’ve been browsing the internet for over an hour because of jet lag. Already better than yesterday when I woke up at 3:40 AM!! I’m waiting for sunrise to go set up in the hammock outside like I did yesterday (something I never have time to do in the United States!!!). Oh wow!! I just read on this page that starting March 9th, journals can’t have more than 300 photos!! Not cool!! My last one had 1,286!!

The maximum number of 300 photos per journal has been reached. This photo limit has been in effect since March 9, 2020, to help reduce the site’s hosting costs. Your journal contains 1,286 photos.

Thanks for your sweet messages. Martine ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Martine,

Glad our exchanges are helpful.

We did a Denver/Denver trip in 2018. Such great and beautiful memories, like every trip to this incredibly appealing country.

A new travel journal to post from August and September 2019, once again featuring stunning sites like those in New Mexico, which has so many.

It’s coming, but time is a bit tight...

Thanks again.

Hi Martine,

I just read your travel journal in one go... given the lockdown.... Anyway, your itinerary really reminded me of one of the last trips I took to the USA last summer: we went to Yellowstone, and also passed through Dakota, Cheyenne and its cowboy boots, Cody and its bull statues. Last year, we visited Garden of the Gods, but in winter, as well as Colorado National Monument.

I think your journal made me want to go back to the States in the summer, to explore the states or sites where it’s not too hot in the summer: Colorado, Wyoming, Bryce Canyon... Painted Mines Park is definitely one of the spots I want to visit, along with Fantasy Park.

Yet I just got back from there barely a week ago, right before the borders closed.

I totally get how you can catch the "USA virus" (it’s all the rage). I’ve had it for 40 years. But this one’s even more incurable—the Southwest USA virus—how happy we are to have it!

Wishing you a wonderful trip in September.

Hi Martine, I’ve been a quiet reader of your travel journal and really enjoyed it—congrats! I did a similar route to yours back in 2010 (at least up to Grand Teton) and again this summer (for the end part), so it brought back a lot of memories. Hope you can make the September trip with Moab—it’s always a highlight for us. I’ll have to go back a fourth time; there’s still so much to see! As I show in my journal, if you’ve got a few extra bucks to spare, don’t hesitate to do the scenic flight over Canyonlands—it’s magical. Thanks again! Cheers,

Hello

It's hard to look ahead even though September is just around the corner! For my part, I'm trying to plan Quebec for 2021, but I'm not getting anywhere. It feels like all the landscapes look the same!

Alright, hang in there—we’ll make it! !
