A thought for you, Yang! Your account of North Korea sits on my bedside table—I often think of you!

It’s crazy how time flies. Ten years ago, I was getting ready to leave for China!

A pre-winter thought for Patrick The forum changes, some members no longer come by, but this post lives on🙂

The members are still here, probably less active because they don’t have the youthful energy you all do. But there’s no birthday when I don’t come back here, remembering Patrick, who left too soon, too early, taking with him so much freshness in his stories, so much humor, enthusiasm, truth, and sincerity.

How could we miss this meet-up he asked us never to forget... November 4th?

Friendly thoughts to all travelers following this post.

Thanks, Julie, for bringing this post back up.

I printed out some of our late Patrick "Yangguizi"’s stories. I reread the one about Iran from time to time, always with emotion—the same emotion I felt when I heard about his passing, on an evening when I was in Ecuador. Such a sad night.

Let’s not forget him.

Nilsou.

Thanks Alex for bringing this post back up.

There are months like that, a little sadder than others, when a certain melancholy takes over, and we think a bit more about our dear departed—about you, Patrick.

Hi there, Another VF member joined him this year, Decléricy :/ I think they must be sharing some happy stories together... Anyway, they’re missed around here on the forum! francia

Did Decléricy also cross over?

DeCléricy is gone, yes... His ashes were laid to rest in Abitibi.

DeCléricy, the stargazer

So I don’t know if his spirit will meet Yangguizi’s, but if it does, they’ll have wonderful conversations about travel and chocolate... While we here will still be sad.

An alleyway in Istanbul, Hocapasa Street, a slightly shabby hotel, a few portraits of North Korean leaders spread out on the lobby’s low tables, a few steps in Gülhane Park, and a photo of a smiling, happy couple—an Adana kebab in Eyüp, where life’s delicious indulgence spares no one. The years fly by too quickly, but the connections, the laughter, and the incredible conversations remain, tucked away like a precious little madness.

Yep, Patrick and Marcel—two rare personalities who brightened up VF, gave it depth... and I miss them a lot.

Yes indeed, Patrick and Marcel, two rare personalities who brightened up VF, gave it depth... and I miss them a lot.

Does Lepiaf miss them... or does Jean-Pierre?

These two personalities are missed by everyone who crossed paths with them on VF, and even more so by those who knew them personally. They’re missed on VF too.

It seems to me that if Lepiaf (Jean-Pierre) referred to them by their first names, it was a way to connect with them as people—to soften the distance that a username inevitably creates.

This thread doesn’t seem like the best place for verbal acrobatics.

That wasn’t a reason to join them so soon! 😮😕 Now reunited, you must be having a good laugh. And I hope you are. 😉
