Thanks Mathews, yes the budget’s already set and our truck uses less than the campers we’ve seen for sale on the beach...

Thanks everyone for your great tips. We’ve revised our plans. We’ll keep you posted.

Hi there. I’ve already done this trip with a truck (check out my blog "berardenamerique.blogspot" – you might face inspections, and if you're over 3.5 tons, you’ll need a commercial license. People are really friendly, but sometimes the police enforce the rules. Feel free to reach out if you need more info. mrlb49@gmail.com; Hasta luego

Thanks so much Bernard for your feedback. We’ve finally decided to buy a camper van and have it shipped by Wave (that’s the plan, anyway). I’ll check out your blog right away, and I’ll let you know if I have any questions! All the best to you.

hi there, it’s still the right choice because a camper van definitely uses less fuel. What are you planning to do with your truck, then? Oh, and I remember in Brazil—someone correct me if I’m wrong—there were vehicle weighing systems. I think I saw something like that somewhere 🙂

We kept it because it's my partner's work truck—he's a tree surgeon—and we'll finish converting the living space to make it work, but we'll get a heavy-goods license and reclassify his truck as an HGV. :-)

I've driven 42,000 km across South America. I’ve never had a load check. Still, be careful because they don’t always drive well, and some aren’t insured and... don’t even have a license (common in Peru). What’s the make of your vehicle? There are quite a few pretty competent mechanics. You can check out my blog "bernardenamerique.blogspot" Buen viaje

Thanks Bernard for your reply, but in the meantime, we worked around the problem by traveling in a camper van ;-)
