Aoraki / Mt Cook refused—the rascal—to mirror itself in Lake Matheson (New Zealand)!

Good evening

If this theme has already been used before, no worries.

Yes, in June 2012

VF Photo Contest June 2012: "Reflections"

Here are the three photos I submitted back then

Photo 1

In Milan, a long time ago—just as I was about to photograph these pretty tulips, some *%#@ cyclist stole the show. Ugh!

Photo 2

In Puzhehei, Yunnan (China)

Photo 3

The trunk of the Maharaja of Jaipur’s car, with his motto droit et loyal (in French) and, as a bonus in the reflection, a very rare and sought-after self-portrait of Ragamuffin 🤪 scanned photo

In Milan, a long time ago, just as I was about to take a photo of those pretty tulips, some *%#@ cyclist stole the show—ugh, so annoying!

I think the photo’s charm and its reflection actually come from that cyclist being there.

Hello Isabelle,

I love the theme. The hardest part is going to be choosing the photos 😉

A photo of a lake that’s perfect for reflections. A panorama taken with my phone. Lago di Carezza in the Dolomites

Have a great weekend, Pascale

Hi Pascale,

The hardest part will be selecting the photos

So true! 😉

A photo of a lake that’s perfect for reflections.

Such a beautiful photo! 🙂 ... which reminds me of Lac Miroir in the Queyras—it really lives up to its name, at least when the weather’s calm. Here it is early in the morning after camping by the lake.

I'm already seeing some really great entries in the contest... thanks to everyone who's already posted! 😊

I need to find the original—this photo’s from 2019. We were far away, and I think it was taken from a low angle. From what I remember, it was shot from behind, but now you’ve got me doubting! 🤔

I knew this topic would mess with our heads, especially in times like these when everything feels upside down! 😏

So, Joël! Nothing in your notes, even when things are right-side up? 😄

Hello,

I knew the first photo with the lion’s eye 😄

Yes, it was my avatar for a long time!

I knew it too and always thought it was a clever Photoshop edit or something. But after checking out your Botswana travel journal on your site to understand the context of this shot, I realized it wasn’t. The reflection actually appears in both of the animal’s eyes. Amazing!

Nope! We even tried it ourselves on a topi in South Africa, but the result really doesn’t compare to Nathalie’s photo 😢

Namibia (from Agfachrome slides), July 2002

The waterholes in Etosha are all great spots to see animals reflected in them 😊

We tried that too, but the result must not have been great since I can’t find the photo 😅 More reflections in Singapore! In different colors at Gardens by the Bay 😊

Hi Pascale, Mountain lakes are indeed perfect for reflections 👍 Here, the Aiguilles d’Arves in Lac Guichard.

Another reflection from the same spot.

I think the photo’s charm and its reflection are actually thanks to that cyclist

I totally agree with you, Kate 😄 I’d waited ages for the tram to pass along with some pedestrians (Grenoble)

Thanks, Raga, for digging up the June 2012 theme! It’s been over 10 years, so I think those of you who were around back then should be able to come up with some new photos to share 😄

Here are the three photos I submitted at the time

Photo 1

In Milan, a long time ago—just as I was about to snap a photo of these pretty tulips, some *%#@ cyclist stole the show. Ugh!

I really love all three of these, but my favorite has to be the one from China—a perfect reflection 🤩

That means you’d need some pretty high-end gear, almost pro-level.
