Hi Alain,

I really love the first and last photos in this series—you’ve nailed the reflections! 😊

Hi Agnès,

I was wondering when we'd see some photos of those stunning Andean lagoons! 😉

Here’s one that’s way less spectacular (but also way closer): the Laguna Fuente de Piedra in Andalusia. We missed the hundreds of pink flamingos stopping over by just a few days—only a few stragglers were left 😏.

For those who are interested, I’m sharing an article with photos of Lake Suchitlan completely overrun by green algae in 2025—it’s really striking.

I’ve also included photos from 2024 where you can see just a few algae. A few days earlier, a dredging barge had been brought in to remove the plants (I was shown photos of it), but they spread incredibly fast. I saw even more of them in another spot while taking a bus to a nearby village.

The article: https://fr.news.yahoo.com/immense-lac-au-salvador-ressemble-053005909.html

The 2024 photos: The boats in the first two photos are for tourists (birdwatching).

Here are some more photos of the peaceful Laguna El Jocotal, much less touristy than Lake Suchitlán. The place is beautiful with several volcanoes, but they weren’t very visible that day:

I had some other photos of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala—it's more well-known than the previous two and much more touristy:

I don’t have any photos of Lake Titicaca because I was way too sick to take any, so I’ll never have pictures of Andean lagoons 😢

For a change of pace... some animals (old habits die hard 😄) coming to drink from the ponds

or taking a bath

The squirrel’s reflection is gorgeous—looks like a mirror!

That totally sounds like altitude sickness. But tell me, why don’t we have a travel journal for this?

And can we consider this a lake? 😛

Answer: well yeah, there's a dock! 😉

Hi Muriel,

Yeah, those Andean lagoons are super photogenic! But they’re not always easy to get to, whether by road or health-wise.🤪

My partner also doesn’t handle very high altitudes well.

That’s the worst part—it’s all natural colors! ;)

My partner thought the Miñiques and Miscanti lagoons were the most beautiful natural landscape he’d ever seen.

In the Altiplano, the sky is almost always clear, and the light is nearly always beautiful, with stunning landscapes.

The first three photos were taken in Bolivia in 2011, and the last one in Chile in 2012. I had some great shots of pink flamingos in Chile, but I can’t find them anymore—I think they got deleted.

This thread brought back some old travel photos that remind me of amazing memories. I’ll finish with another beautiful South American lake—Lake Titicaca in Bolivia back in 2012.

I think some time ago, there was a contest with "reflections" as the theme. Your photos could have been part of it 🙂. It's true that with stagnant water as the theme, reflections are often present 😏

I had much more beautiful ones, but I can't find them. Back then, I'd made paper prints, and both the photographer and a client asked me where it was because it's so gorgeous and the photos were stunning (the light is sublime). Unfortunately, I also lost those paper prints due to water damage!
