Hi everyone,
After a VF meet-up near Alnif, it turns out the story about Alnif’s sour potatoes is actually an unfounded rumor from the Routard. To check, I asked a few people selling potatoes at the Alnif souk. They don’t produce many potatoes in Alnif ๐
On the other hand, I did eat some fries there and really enjoyed them—but I find them good all over Morocco in general, with three stars for the ones in Ifrane in the Anti-Atlas ๐

Sorry Hannah, but I can’t remember the name of Tata’s restaurant. It’s a little snack place on the main street.
Have a great day.

Hello,
It was the name of the hotel that interested me.
Thanks for your reply.

There’s only one decent restaurant in Tata—
‘Mac Doudmane chez el Mansour’ on the main street MV, practically at the fork.

This one?

I ate there a few times, but nothing beats the little restaurant on the square—way tastier, real street-food style. Under the arches, well-lit in the photo below.

Hi there, in November, Tata hotels were fully booked because of the festival and the marathon. We found a room at the pool—pretty pricey and modest, but it did the trick.

A guesthouse? Which pool? Can you clarify—I’m interested, I’ve never heard of it.
I know:
- Le Relais des Sables – mediocre
- La Renaissance – not great, but okay in the renovated rooms
- Dar I Infiane – expensive guesthouse
- A dreadful guesthouse whose name I’ve forgotten, by the wadi.
Looks like there are rooms in a campsite—seems new. Was that the one?
Thanks for the reply.

For Auntie, it’s really expensive, especially without a bathroom.
I paid 12 € for a single at the Renaissance with a private shower.

Early in the morning, we leave Tata and the La Renaissance hotel to head towards Tafraoute. The sky looks a bit threatening at times, but no rain. We think winter must be harsh in these parts—we see piles of wood drying in the sun. We pass nomadic camps where herds are grazing. And sometimes, one, two, or even more gas bottles waiting for the delivery guy.

An unusual setup catches our eye by the roadside... We get closer to see what it’s all about. It’s workers making thyme essential oil. A rudimentary but effective setup. They’re happy to share a moment with us and explain their work. A nice encounter, there too.

In Tafraoute, we trust the forum travelers and head straight to L'Arganier. A lovely little hostel with charming hospitality.

We enjoy our evening there by the pool. When Brahim comes to ask what we’d like for dinner, we go for the town’s specialty: *poulet ร l’amour* (love chicken). A great choice.
The next day, we set off to explore Tafraoute and its surroundings. It’s a stunningly beautiful place, different from what you see elsewhere in Morocco. We take a long hike between Aday and Tafraoute—it’s gorgeous.
At noon, we have lunch on the terrace at the Hรดtel Tanger. Affordable prices and delicious food.
A quick stroll through town to see the babouche makers at work. It’s pretty and colorful—we can’t resist.

Back at the hostel, dinner is a beef tajine with dried fruits. A delight.
And the next day, we hit the road again.
