Hi MycoVtt
Amazing photos!! Well done!!
Could you tell us more about the technical details of the second one?
I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had to give up because of the weather, especially in July due to storms—just last year on the way to Alsthom Point.
I’m starting to think October is the best season for the West, plus you get those gorgeous autumn colors.

Don’t you have a site for your USA photos?... I love them.

You can edit/correct a post for a certain amount of time—two hours, I think.
In any case, when re-reading, no problem to do it...

Thanks!
No, someone already suggested it to me, but printing is expensive, it takes time to stay on site, and I don’t drink alcohol so I wouldn’t even enjoy the opening... 😏😏
Not sure, maybe one day...
On the other hand, there isn’t a single "blank" wall in my house—or almost! lol

a few, I secretly hope... 😉
But the one of Reflection Canyon—I think it’s the most beautiful of the trip. And the one I was hoping for the most.

Hello Yves,
Reflection Canyon: I love it 😎.
King of Wings: stunning, but it's a shame you removed the EXIF data—it could be useful for beginners.
Thanks for everything.

Thanks!
It's VF that strips the EXIF data, like FB does.
20 seconds (though 15 would've been better—slight star trails when zooming in), 16mm, f4.0, ISO 8000.
Canon 5D Mark IV, 16-35mm f4 L IS USM.

Too bad you're removing the EXIFs—it could be useful for beginners.
I agree that EXIF data adds a lot to understanding a photo, but I don’t think beginners care about it—it’s more for serious hobbyists.

What a fantastic idea, there are already so many beautiful photos. My personal favorite is a valley in Capitol Reef with stunning petroglyphs that are slowly fading over time.

Good evening everyone,
I’ve noticed that no one has posted any photos since MycoVtt’s—and for good reason;
might we feel a bit out of our league?
So here I go:

You’ll recognize Coyote Buttes South or CBS!

A pair while we wait.
On the first day, we caught the sunrise at Goblin Valley, with a really interesting sky just before the sun came up.
But if I post all the best ones, the rest will seem dull...

Hi Yves,
C'est VF qui supprime les exifs
That’s a shame—I don’t see what it does for them .
20 secondes (mais 15 auraient été mieux, légères traînées des étoiles en zoomant), 16mm, f4.0 ISO 8000
Thanks.
For the lens and this type of photo, I have a 16-85 Nikon (3.5-5.6) and an 8-16 Sigma (4.5-5.6). Which one would you prefer? The composition is a bit trickier with the 8-16.
My camera is an (old) D90, so I think I’ll stick to ISO 1600 to keep noise down.
Canon 5D
Oh no, that won’t work for me—I’ve got a Nikon 😎!
Have a great weekend.

Hi there!
1600 ISO is really too low. That’s why we’re seeing so many more night photos now—full-frame cameras can handle higher ISOs because their photosites are larger, and the technology has improved a lot!
See what you can do, but you’ll have to use longer exposures, and the issue is you shouldn’t exceed 500/focal length in seconds. So, 500/16 in my case: 31 seconds max—that’s the theory. After that, you’ll have to check for wind, etc. For me, 20 seconds was the limit. Such long exposures generate noise because the sensor heats up, and the hotter it gets, the more noise there is.
The 8-16mm will distort your image but allow for longer exposures.
I don’t know how sharp these two lenses are—check if they’re on DXO or another lens-testing site to compare.
Stellarium is *way* better than the link you sent me because you can really visualize the Milky Way.
Focusing: aim at a bright star, activate live view at max magnification (find the star, lol), focus manually, then turn off live view and keep that setting. Only way to do it...
