Hi again Yves,

The 8-16 will distort your image but allow you to pause longer

Got it; so, at 10 (Sigma), max exposure time of 33s, and at 16 (Nikon) 21s. I think I’ll try with both lenses. The tests will be in a fully desert area, so no light pollution at all.

Stellarium is 1,000 times better

OK, noted.

Have a great Sunday.

yeah, anyway, you’ll have to do a lot of testing on-site... Your main issue will be noise at high ISO, no doubt...

I think I’m gonna cave and get the Sigma Art 14mm f/1.8 next year... It’ll add weight to the bag, though I’m thinking of swapping out the 16-35mm f/4.0 for it—still keeping the 24-70mm f/2.8 II as well. I’m planning night shots at Red Rock Canyon and Delicate Arch. Still gotta see if it’ll line up with the moon, Tom’s school holidays, etc... Complicated...

The 8-16 will distort your image but let you pause longer - OK; so, at 10 (Sigma), max exposure time of 33s, and at 16 (Nikon) 21s. I think I’ll try with both lenses. The tests will be in the middle of the desert, so no light pollution at all - Stellarium is 1,000 times better

I’m totally lost here, much to my embarrassment... I’ve been telling myself for years that I need to get serious about photography...

Anyway, did you see we’ve hit 99 contributors on our collaborative travel journal? It’d be awesome to offer the 100th a flight ticket to the American West... but they’ll have to settle for a warm message, unless I also give them a quiz to check they’ve read all 38 pages of the journal... heh heh heh!

Thanks again to all the contributors... I’ve kind of used up my quota... and even though my love for this West that dazzled me is intense... I’m still a small player compared to most of you since I flit from continent to continent... my next destination (coming up fast) has NOTHING to do with it, even if it promises some widescreen views too.

No, at 10, 50sec. is 500 divided by the focal length. Oh right, unless it's a small sensor...

Hi Fabienne. Thanks for starting all this. It was really nice. Like you, I love to "flit around"—the planet is so beautiful. Best regards, Bernard.

The Sigma Art 14mm f/1.8 is awesome—you won’t regret it 😊 Do you bracket all your shots?

Hi Yves,

Ah yes, unless it's a small sensor...

Yes, APS-C.

Hi Fabienne, I also really liked the original idea (1 post, 1 photo, 1 emotion), even if (but it’s no big deal) some people strayed from it a bit. The world is vast and diverse, always fascinating and interesting. Whether you focus on one small place or explore all over, it’s all about what brings you joy. Thanks. Philippe.

Hi Fabienne and all you lovers of the West,

Love this travel journal idea. Back on VF, I’m adding my contribution (as the 100th contributor, lol). Photo of Cathedral Rock in Sedona from last March. The journal shouldn’t be long in starting.

Hi Fabienne, We’re thrilled to have taken part in this travel journal—it was a first for us. So, thank you for sharing! Safe travels ahead—we read in your profile that more trips are on the horizon. Take care, and as we like to say... LET’S ENJOY LIFE! Let’s live great adventures (each in our own way, as Yves-pifil says). Meetings, curiosities, wonders, colors, scents... Until the next travel journal... Michèle and Philippe Mc Gayver

Hey Julien, It's crazy that you're only the 100th contributor!! You were desperate to get your flight ticket covered and leave right away 😛, but you must’ve noticed that Fabienne chickened out 😏, so you’ll have to settle for a little thank-you note... See you soon on your travel journal! Guillaume

Hey Julien!

Your contribution took this travel journal to a great new level—thanks a ton! 100 participants is awesome! Sure, the initial frenzy has calmed down... but it’d be great if those of you returning from the wild west keep coming back to post a snapshot and a feeling...

Cheers to everyone!

Blues Canyon if I'm not mistaken. I was there by bike in 2014.

Hi there, The weather isn’t great right now—lots of rain at Bryce Canyon, even some snow, and the same at Yellowstone. Hard to find a sunny destination!
