Hello,
We're in Port Alberni, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Vancouver Island. The weather is nice but chilly in the mornings—around 12°C. In the afternoons, it's warmer but still with a cold wind (mountains and sea at the same time—it's a mountainous island). The forecast had said the weekend would be bad though...

Hard to find a sunny destination
Hi Gilles,
My daughter had sunny weather in the Bahamas (business trip).
Have a great day!

Yesterday, May 29th, I drove from Mt. Crested Butte to Denver: in the snow (big flakes from the start all the way to Bailey on 50 and then 285).

Good evening,
It's beautiful out there: On Route 12 between the 133 and Crested Butte.

Great job!
My contribution, another one from MV, but it's mine and its memories.

Here in Normandy, today it's rain and strong winds;
This week marks the 75th anniversary commemorations of D-Day.
Several tributes have been paid.
Spitfires, C47s, and Dakotas filled the sky the day before and on D-Day, dropping hundreds of paratroopers—a unique opportunity to see so many, and a moving reminder of history.

A bit of 😏 concrete because this is often where the journey to the West begins, and because I also loved L.A. (summer 2017)

I think it all came together. I left at a time when I really needed to get away, then the drive from Austin to the park took 2 days since we made several stops (Alpine then Marfa), and that feeling of going to the ends of the earth through these desert landscapes where ranches and small towns appear and disappear in 5 minutes of driving... That journey really sparked excitement and curiosity, and then arriving on the scenic route between Presidio and Terlingua is just stunning.
Actually, everything built up gradually—a little walk at Closed Canyon just before the park that set the mood, then the next day, arriving at Big Bend where I stayed for 5 full days.
In fact, this park has it all: vast plains filled with cacti (some still in bloom), high-altitude forests with 360-degree mountain views, and then those incredible canyons with the Rio Grande... and swimming in the Rio Grande—well, that’s something else... and realizing that on the other side is Mexico.
It’s a very special atmosphere... not many people since we already had temperatures around 40°C (in fact, 2 of the visitor centers were already closed for the summer—they discourage people from coming in such heat), cacti, breathtaking sunsets, and a wild population, especially in Terlingua and Marfa... and nothing for miles around...
Anyway, I’d never experienced such an atmosphere. And in terms of hikes and treks, you could easily spend a whole week or more in this park. I missed the cactus bloom by just 2 weeks—I plan to go back someday to see it because even the little we saw was so tempting... Anyway, sorry I tried to keep it short—it’s not easy, there’s so much to say... I highly recommend it!

Hello.
This park is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Tommy Lee Jones filmed his movie "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" here.
It’s farther than the standard routes, but when you love something, you don’t keep track of the miles.
Have a great day. Jacques.
Christel, can you imagine a "WALL" in this setting...............

Well, here's a fun little anecdote... while gazing at the Rio Grande with a view of those sheer cliffs, a real Texan cowboy walks up and says, "Well, I guess Dummy won't need to build his stupid wall out here...." 😉
We also took a trip to Boquillas in Mexico, and my American friends crossed back over the border wearing these T-shirts... the border guard had a big smirk on his face....
(And *3 Funerals* aired a few days after I got back on Arte, I think—I hadn’t seen it before, but I loved it. It really captures the vastness of South Texas...)

Hi Christel.
I totally agree with you—this national park is unforgettable. The feeling of isolation and wild vastness is extraordinary. Even though it was a long time ago, July '91, it’s a place that left a deep impression on me. I remember driving down trails in a simple sedan, and I’d put rocks in the deepest potholes to keep going. I didn’t see a single person—even the parking area near Boquillas Canyon was empty. Thanks for bringing back those memories. Best regards.

Darn, how did I miss this post and not contribute to it?
All fixed now with my little photo that fits perfectly for a place I love: Edmaier's secret!
