What criteria make you choose one destination over another?

On Latourex, a fun page full of wit and neologisms, with original criteria and some definitions.
For example, you might fall into the category of uxoritourism 😉. And it seems we have a circus enthusiast here who’s also a necrotourist.
A while back, there was a great discussion about Latourex started by Loopkin. It featured some well-known names and the invention of VFTourism.
And more often destinations to the east.
Like the polar jet stream, which Greenlanders consider a bad wind, whether they come from Europe or Russia, dominant (and dominating) ideas now circulate in the same direction.
@Kola
The only place where specialists [...] operate and spin dreams.
Aren’t you confusing them with off-topic specialists? How are they the same? 😮

Why should women be denied during their vacations?
Haven't you been reading the news?

You didn’t answer my question...😇
( Kola and Kate didn’t either, by the way)

Among the cities you listed where I understood you wanted to return, are there any that are affected by mines?
Cities aren’t mined much.
While you’ll need to wait a bit for Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv—probably—visiting Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, and most others should be possible soon after the airports reopen. Uzhhorod is no problem.
Kherson, on the other hand, no.

And going?
When I first visited Kyiv about 10 years ago, I was about to go for a walk but ran out of time.
This time too... does that bother you (or y’all)?
Sometimes reading you guys, I get the feeling that whenever someone doesn’t see things your way, it triggers your judgments or disapproval—expressed more or less directly. My comment goes for Kola, Voyajou, and you too.

I don’t see where I disapprove of visiting Chernobyl (with proper health precautions in place)?
I think it’s a valuable historical lesson with an educational purpose.
Sometimes when I read your posts, I detect a *hint* of paranoia.
But I could be wrong.

What question? To understand, I went back three pages
Ahhhh, right! The criteria...
If you’d said, “What criteria make you choose this year one destination over another?” I would’ve been more comfortable.
I was reading Voyajou’s amazing document. I love it! And I’m cracking up... Some parts remind me of VF discussions, like when contributors wanted to avoid certain sites at all costs (Taj, Petra... basically anything that attracts crowds and whose photos we’ve already seen, which is enough).
@Voyou, do you know if the creators found an editorial direction? Such creativity and such a deep understanding of what travel is shouldn’t go unnoticed!

QED. The same goes for some who’ve chosen not to return.
In the past, many discussions weren’t derailed by differing opinions but by the outrageous disapproval of others. Sometimes subtly, in an attempt to provoke a reaction and get them banned.
Once again, I advocate for dialogue in good faith.
Besides, those who are respectful usually agree to keep exchanging ideas.
The others, unfortunately, remain stuck in the dark side. Stubbornly.
A lack of openness, of humanity?

Just had to read the title...
You don’t have any criteria for choosing your trips?
You could just as easily go to India, the Amazon, or Iceland?
Hike the Tour du Mont Blanc, bike across the Andes, or drive a 4x4 in Namibia?
No taboos?
I thought you prioritized human connections and that solitude wasn’t really your thing (like trips in the middle of nowhere without meeting anyone except your travel companions).
Am I completely wrong?

Some passages remind me of VF discussions where participants wanted to avoid certain sites at all costs (Taj Mahal, Petra... basically anything that attracts crowds and whose photos we’ve already seen, which is enough for them)
Soon, we won’t have a choice anymore—unless you enjoy being swept away by the crowd...
There are places I’m glad I visited a few years ago or even earlier.
Now, either they’re overcrowded, hard to enjoy because of selfie sticks ruining the view, or way too expensive.
Some stunning sites disappointed me, like Halong Bay, while I loved its land-based namesake.
That’s why the pleasant surprise of discovering magnificent spots that aren’t yet—or barely—touched by tourists was such a treat.
Honestly, those people weren’t wrong—I just think they didn’t nuance their point enough, don’t you think?

For me, it just feels odd that travelers are thinking about Ukraine right now. The first feeling I get when I think about that country isn’t regret that I can’t go there while hoping the war ends so I can satisfy my desires.

Nice slip-up. I would’ve written "Canaillou" instead 😛

but above all, history and cultures—the people living in this country are always my priority!...
So, people too.
All people, or do you have more of an affinity with certain cultures?

One doesn’t rule out the other.
Should a foreigner traveling to Paris run, turn their head, or cover their eyes to avoid seeing the Eiffel Tower at all costs?

It’s not a slip-up but a nickname that’s been around for over a decade...
I don’t think I read your reply on the subject either?😇
Thailand, but again—why?🙂
