Alright, I’m posting this famous photo, even though you can’t really see the lake (and the weather wasn’t great 😕)

Pura Ulun Danu, in Bali, on Lake Bratan

You should’ve joined the photo contest on the theme of reflections! 😊

By the shores of Lac du Salagou, which I love:

I’d forgotten about Lac du Salagou—what a great hike memory!

There were so many beautiful photos of mountain lakes in the contest that I ultimately didn’t post mine. Still, great memories:

During the lake hike in Orcières

Lac Melu near Corte

And for respecting the rules 😎

Hello,

I wanted to ask Xrctn if the color of Peyto Lake in Canada was edited or if that turquoise blue is natural? If they pass by here...

Hey, it's a natural color due to sediments (glacial flour) and the angle of the light... as you can see by searching Peyto Lake on Google + Images.

However, I'm not sure about this photo of one taken in Guérande showing its salt fields.

Where I live in Australia, there’s no shortage of lakes... the problem is they’re often salty or dry (often both at the same time).

Lake Ballard near Menzies in the Goldfields Pink Lake near Esperance (yes, contrary to appearances, it can turn pink too!) Lakes near Monkey Mia Yarra Yarra Lakes in the Wheatbelt Still, there are a few exceptions like Lake Argyle in the north of the state, the country’s largest (artificial) freshwater reserve. But you’ll also find these critters there (luckily, they’re not interested in human flesh).

Hi there,

That’s not the case with this one, by the shore of Lake Manze in the Selous Reserve, southern Tanzania.... 😕

Good evening,

More peaceful, a seasonal pond near Bastelicaccia in southern Corsica...

Locals call it the "horse pond," thanks to the nearby equestrian center!

You might run into some pleasant surprises here (like in 2019):

Have a great evening. Puma2A

Still in Kenya, Lake Bogoria and its thousands of lesser flamingos

Lake Baringo where fishing is open 😊

Hi there,

In front of an artificial pond, a Siberian she-wolf is keeping an eye on me.... (Wolf Park of Gévaudan, in Marvejols) May 2025.

Gorgeous this she-wolf! It’s a nice change from lions or cheetahs 😉

I thought the color had been edited, but now I remember a little lagoon in Costa Rica with the same turquoise waters—some forum members must know it, it’s pretty touristy.

Oh yes, those water puddles!

When I saw this one, I thought the taxi excursion around Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh, India) was gonna be a washout :/ but nope, the driver managed to get through it 😏

A few photos of alpine lakes: Lake Geneva, near my home in Évian

Freezing temps in 2011, I think

Lake Annecy

In Switzerland, Oberhofen on Lake Thun

Much farther away, in India, Lake Pichola in Udaipur

In Java, the crater lake of Kawa Ijen and a sulfur porter.

Wow! Lake Annecy with the ice—gorgeous 👍

If I want to nitpick, I think it’s Lake Geneva with the ice ;) but Gaura will confirm (or not). But yeah, it’s been ages since we’ve seen it like this!

This morning, a little stroll around the billabong* near the house.

* A billabong is an Australian term for a lake or isolated pond left behind after a river changes course. Billabongs typically form when the path of a stream or river shifts, leaving the old branch in a dead end.

Thanks for explaining "billabong" (a word I’d heard before but never knew the meaning of 😉)
