The King of Thailand has died

So when you don’t know and you can’t be bothered to understand:

Now that’s some expert-level information. Between the extreme precision of phrases like "many Thais"..."an attitude shared by a large segment of the population..." "...a completely infantilized population..." and the pretension of explaining decades of history in one page—when we know, for example, that the 1932 coup alone has generated countless conflicting academic analyses spanning hundreds of pages... As for the psyche, the unconscious is absent from any materialist conception of the world by definition.

Simple, summarized, objective, black-and-white, easy to understand. I love the information handed down to uneducated people by enlightened elites, and if necessary, with a sickle and hammer when they don’t want it. And above all, pick your side. But preferably mine, because all the others are wrong.

Once again, you have nothing to say. So I’ll move on.

Hello, I read, like other contributors, 321’s stories. And they’re magnificent. Just a little compassion, some understanding for the country as a whole and its paradoxes.

Edit: This was meant for 321. Not directly for you, sorry!

Hi,

For compassion, don’t worry—let everyone handle it in their own way, from total silence to the most shameless, even sordid, displays on forums.

As for understanding, thankfully, no one has a monopoly on it, no matter the subject.

See you, 321

I couldn't care less, and you're showing total ignorance about Buddhism with your incoherent responses... there's nothing wrong with looking foolish in life... but to flaunt it and mock others with such unparalleled misunderstanding is another story.... So for your personal education... and I beg you, dear Sir...

Theravada Buddhism remains what defines love in the most subtle way... it's true that it takes effort to learn, and it's up to you...

As your punishment, you’ll recite the 44 letters of the Thai alphabet for me, and while singing!!! 😛 p-l-e-a-s-e...

I don’t mind, and you’re showing total ignorance about Buddhism

Ugh, and here I thought the topic was the monarchy (and, of course, the military, since the two are inseparable in this case—"thick as thieves," as they say!). And then you talk about inconsistency... 🤪

with your incoherent replies...

Please quote what you didn’t understand—I’ll try to use even simpler words...

there’s nothing wrong with looking foolish in life...

I can confirm that (example).

an unparalleled misunderstanding

Seriously: "misunderstanding," "ignorance," "inconsistency"... What are you waiting for to explain it all to me (without nonsense, please)?

Theravada Buddhism remains what defines love in one of the most subtle ways... it’s true that it takes effort to educate yourself, and it’s up to you...

Speaking of education, start by rereading your own posts—it’s a bit rough... Anyway, moving on, because for me, religions are all the same—none’s better than the other. And especially not this one...

Regarding the rest (your comments about the situation in Laos)

Hmm, I think 321 must consider that my questions don’t deserve a response for the readers. On a personal note, I really enjoy Travel journals by motorcycle, on foot, or hitchhiking that lead to something concrete, not just a link of compassion. And even if I don’t align with his ideas, I have deep respect for the man and his commitment, paired with an extraordinary lifelong friendship. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnets_de_voyage

And following Christian’s relevant quote:

As your punishment, you’ll recite the 44 letters of the Thai alphabet—singing!

"An Eternal Light," a song composed and produced by French pianist and producer Frank Herrgott. Lyrics by Australian singer James Flynn, in collaboration with American singer Keithen Carter, featuring the famous Thai saxophonist Mr. Saxman and Canadian Sylvain Gagnon on double bass. The choir consists of foreign singers and musicians living in Thailand and Luk-Khun (mixed heritage). music.sanook.com/2382365/

Come on, I think 321 must think my questions don’t deserve an answer

Hi,

Of course they do! But (beyond being off-topic) I objectively can’t give you a reliable answer on this subject. Others will be much better informed.

...The topic of debate is: The King of Thailand has died;

End of story!!!

Is this really a topic for debate, "The King of Thailand has died"??? 🤪

Because honestly, I don’t see how anyone could have opinions or views on such a fact (which is kind of the point of a debate, right?).

Just saying.

Once again, you have nothing to say. So I’ll move on.

I’ll skip the condescension because sometimes—rarely—a person who thinks very highly of themselves actually has good reason to. I’m asking you a simple question: Do you know any Thais?

I’ll ask you a simple question: do you hang out with Thais?

Seeing you come in with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, I’ll ask you not one, but three questions in return (my generosity will be my downfall):

- Do you *have* to know Lao people to have the right to challenge the dictatorship ruling that country? - Do you *have* to know Breton farmers to have the right to challenge intensive pig farming in Brittany? - Do you *have* to know people who sodomize flies to have the right to challenge the sodomy of flies?

The floor is yours, counsel for the prosecution.

You're not being consistent with the forum topic: The King of Thailand has died... do you understand French?

Feel free to start a thread on any miscellaneous topics that interest you, if you'd like, but here we're discussing the fact that the King of Thailand has passed away... and there's plenty to remember... do you see how your comments don't relate to what's being said? 🤪

My question was simple. Thanks for answering it with the same simplicity. Condescension, constant generalizations, prejudices about the person you’re talking to, zero field experience (big theories about infantilized Thais are great, but long evenings chatting with a few of them is also valuable), partial and biased knowledge of complex issues, black-and-white judgments, and to top it off, a supposedly funny "childish" pirouette (oh really?). I won’t learn anything from this, and clearly, I have nothing to teach you either, since you’ve already got it all figured out. End of discussion on my end. PS: For anyone who actually wants to understand this country beyond stereotypes, know that foreigners are welcome, you can travel freely, and people speak freely too. At least when real friendships are formed. Respect, humility, and an open mind.

Is it mandatory to know Lao people to have the right to challenge the dictatorship governing that country?

It’s certainly not a requirement, but when talking about a country in mourning, the opinions of locals seem far more relevant than those of armchair activists comfortably sitting on their sofas. A cultural difference, I suppose. I’m more concerned about the fate of the people who have always been kind and welcoming to me, a foreigner, and I can only respect an elderly woman—perhaps infantilized?—paying tribute to a king (*), even if he wasn’t perfect or was criticized by some Western media. Ordinary people make a country too. Should we condemn or mock an entire nation because of its leaders? www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngeAXZbyq08

(*) A thank you to Khun Obeo for this video.

I’ll leave you to judge for yourselves when it comes to pig farming and sodomizers of all stripes.

Note that most participants in this thread don’t need PMs to discuss or agree with your points. So, accept Franky’s PMs—he’ll bother us less, though I doubt his cheers come without some snide remarks about certain members.😎
