I'm struggling with organizing this contest due to lack of time. I forgot to specify the voting dates. You can post photos to enter the contest until Thursday, August 27 at midnight. Voting will take place from August 28 until August 31 as usual: you can vote for 3 photos in order of preference, awarding 3 points to your first choice, 2 points to your second, and 1 point to your third.

We can't skip Florence and its Duomo when it comes to religious buildings! The first time I saw the Duomo, it was at the end of a narrow alley behind the cathedral, and it was massive, overwhelming!

The side view is just as impressive.

From the front, it's impossible to capture the whole thing, even with a wide-angle lens.

With some distance, I managed to frame Giotto's Campanile.

I admired the marble work.

The Baptistery is monumental too.

During my first trip to Florence, you could still get close to its famous "Gates of Paradise."

I never get tired of it—I can always fill up memory cards every time I visit Florence!

For religious buildings, I also have a collection of photos from Thailand, accumulated over many trips to the country. In Bangkok, Wat Arun was the tallest structure until the mid-20th century, clearly visible along the Chao Phraya River. It’s entirely decorated with ceramics. Recently restored, it’s now possible to climb its steep steps, which are secured with railings.

Still in Bangkok, here are some photos of the Grand Palace, which houses the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (made of jade!), the Wat Phra Kaew.

Hi, I’m jumping in at the last minute—just barely made it! August was super busy (a pious lie, since the real reason is too embarrassing to share here). I’ve got hundreds—maybe even a thousand?—photos of religious buildings. So how do I pick just three? I went for simplicity, steering clear of all those flashy structures you see everywhere, no matter the religion. Oh, and Noëlle, just to reassure you, a chapel *is* a religious “building” according to the *Dictionnaire de l’Académie Française*. https://www.dictionnaire-academie.fr/article/A9C1632 Besides, *édifice* comes from the classical Latin *aedificium*, meaning *building* or *construction*. I have no idea where that Google quirk claiming the term is ONLY used for large structures comes from. In fact, *édifice* is the standard term, commonly used for religious constructions of any size.
