We didn’t go to Rodrigues—probably a mistake. After the long-haul flight, we really didn’t feel like getting on another plane.😵

I definitely think late March–April or late October–November are the best months for Mauritius. It’s not the peak of the rainy season, nor the coldest time.😊

I’m putting Mauritius in the beach-destination column. (Like the Dominican Republic, Bonaire, etc.)

Great for a break, but not the trip of a lifetime.

We’re enjoying our sublime terrace one last time before leaving Blue Bay for the airport.

We all do the same—we save the most beautiful spots for last, which makes the return even more painful ๐Ÿ˜‰

Neither you nor the others seem really thrilled… me neither, to be honest. I’ve actually been disappointed since reading several travel journals and blogs, as I’ve had this dream for months of a beach/coconut tree/chill-out destination. But the more I think about it, the less I want it! I’m now looking for different kinds of travel…

Anyway, thanks for this lovely illustrated travel journal ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the weather would’ve been better, I would’ve really enjoyed this trip, which from the start was all about chilling out.

There’s still plenty to do beyond just beach lounging, and the landscapes are gorgeous.

Tourists aren’t trapped in resorts like in the Dominican Republic and can easily organize their own excursions at a reasonable cost.

But if your dream isn’t just to laze on the beach anymore and you’re not into hiking, it’s definitely better to pick another destination.๐Ÿ˜‰

Everyone has their own little version of Mauritian ti' punch, but it's true that it's often less sweet than in the Antilles! Anyway, if you move around the island a bit to taste the different flavored rums from local restaurants and small shops, it's really worth renting a car. During my last trip, I rented a small city car from Crystal Car Rental, and it really helped me get between distilleries and beaches without relying on buses. But honestly, any small local agency will do, as long as you check the condition of the vehicle. Enjoy the ti' punch—and be careful, it sneaks up on you fast! ยป

Uh, I’d say the opposite, wouldn’t you? Drink or drive—no need to choose in Mauritius? In the end, it scores points! [;]

Hey Agnรจs ๐Ÿ™‚

Darn, I’m too late—no more Ti’punch or Savannah Dry… looks like I’ve gotta keep up with you ๐Ÿ˜‰. I’ll admit I prefer reading travel journals here over Myatlas because I love the exchanges with other participants—after all, an apรฉro with a group is way more fun!

I *love* the "Indian" vibe you describe, but honestly, the landscapes didn’t blow me away. In the end, it wasn’t as exotic as I expected. The pictures I’ve seen of Rรฉunion are way more impressive. Even the "beach" part falls short compared to other "paradise" destinations. So overall, I’d say it’s a mixed bag—not at the top of my list. I’ve heard good things about Rodrigues, which isn’t far, but I haven’t looked into it much.

But seriously… that Indian vibe ๐Ÿ™‚… though maybe it’s easier to just go back to India… hee hee hee.

See you soon for more adventures, and thanks for faithfully sharing your trips with us ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Jef,

Let's just say it's a perfect destination for someone looking for a change of scenery, some beach time, and a bit of hiking in a country where you don’t risk much and where it’s easy to find accommodation that isn’t all-inclusive—plus, driving around is a breeze.

The landscapes aren’t bad at all. They don’t really do justice in photos. The island isn’t flat, so it’s not monotonous.

For the Indian vibe, just head to Sri Lanka! !๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, thanks to you I discovered there were some great hikes!

I had started looking into Sri Lanka but didn’t really click with it... Did you go there?

I wanted to head to the Delhi/Agra area in February, but Madame Maxou said she’d love to go to Iceland in winter, so... you know how it goes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good evening,

I thought I read that you were looking for an island as your next destination. I wasn’t expecting Iceland ๐Ÿ˜„ That said, Madame is right—it’s so beautiful! !

A huge thank you, Agnรจs, for this new travel journal! ๐Ÿ™‚ Mauritius definitely isn’t at the top of my list, but who knows what the future holds. The photos in the sunshine are already making me want to go even more!

Hello Pascale,

Great, no, that wasn’t the kind of island I had in mind when I asked the question. The "answer" to that search was Polynesia (Raivavae, Fakarava, Toau, and Tahiti). Iceland is the "icing on the cake" for my 2026 island-hopping plans ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, I’ve already been to Sri Lanka. It’s really nice but not as mind-blowing as India.

Usually, we start with Mauritius and then wander elsewhere.

But if you want to recharge your batteries without any hassle, it's perfect! !

I thought Madame Maxou didn’t like the cold at all????๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Still, I think Icelandic temperatures are closer to our winter temps than our summer ones...๐Ÿ˜„

My daughter went to Iceland in February a few years ago... they were still really cold! But as always, from one year to the next (or even from one week to the next ), the weather can be very different.
