Oceania (New Zealand, Australia) mid-December 2024 for 3 weeks to a month

I’m planning to leave mid-December for 3 weeks to a month in Asia (see my other post) or in New Zealand, and possibly Australia as well.

I’m traveling with a backpack, on a tight budget, using local transport, but for these destinations—especially New Zealand—renting a car is an option.

I’m looking for a female travel companion to share this adventure.

I’m interested in New Zealand. I’m currently organizing my end-of-year trips, and I’ve got a destination in mind for late November, but there’s no certainty it’ll happen. If it doesn’t work out, I could be available during the period you mentioned. However, what do you mean by "backpacking"? Are you planning to go with just a one-way ticket and organize everything on the spot?

Yes, I plan to buy a flight ticket and organize everything myself. For Asia, which I know well, there’s no need to book hotels in advance—everything can be sorted on the spot very easily. For New Zealand, which I don’t know at all, I’m not sure if it’s like Europe and if it’s better to book everything ahead of time. I’m not traveling with a suitcase but a backpack. In Asia, I’m in backpacker mode, which means small hotels, local buses, and local food. In Europe, if I’m traveling alone, I stay in youth hostels because they fit my budget, but otherwise, I’ll go for bed and breakfasts in the UK if that’s all that’s available.

And I rent a car in countries where there aren’t many buses.

Is traveling mid-December—during the holidays—an issue for you?
