Visiting the Acropolis in Athens

Hi there, After checking out different sites for buying tickets to visit the Acropolis, I have to admit I’m a bit lost.

I saw that since April 2024, the visiting time has been limited to 1 hour.

Entry is free for kids, but can you only buy the ticket at the counter?😮

Can anyone confirm this info for me?

Hi there, The only official site is hhticket.gr with a price of 20 € for an adult. All other sites that appear in search engines are private and charge a commission of 3 to 8 €. The booking issue comes from the fact that the Greek booking site isn’t considered secure by most French banks, which refuse card payments. To avoid middlemen, you can go to the secondary entrance of the site, on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, opposite the Acropolis Museum. There’ll be fewer people, and in October, the worst wait you’ll have is half an hour. Don’t forget ID for kids’ free entry. If you buy the combined ticket for the 5 archaeological sites, you can choose your time slot for the Acropolis when you purchase it. Have a great trip!

The ticket is valid for a quarter of an hour before and a quarter of an hour after, giving you 1h30 of possible visiting time. Note that you won’t be checked at the exit during this season. The slopes of the Acropolis (Sanctuary of Pan and Theatre of Dionysus) are also part of the site. Half-price starts from November 1st if you're still in Athens.

No, the visiting time isn't limited. When you buy a ticket for a slot like 12 PM–1 PM, you can enter the site from 11:45 AM and up until 1:15 PM. But you can stay as long as you want!!! Once you're there, you'll quickly see it's simply impossible to control exits :-)
