Hi there, this year while checking my bank account during my stay in Malaysia, I noticed that paying directly with my card was much more advantageous (better exchange rates) than exchanging euros for cash at exchange bureaus, and even more so than ATM withdrawals. So, I changed my habits—I paid for as many expenses as possible, like hotels and purchases in big shopping malls, directly with my card. The only things I paid for in Ringgits were local restaurants, food, and small shops.

hi actually, Islamic banks charge 6%, I tried it 3 days in January 2026. no matter which French bank you use. the info provided by the around-the-world traveler turned out to be false.

Did you make sure to decline the exchange rate offered by the ATM (so the conversion to euros)?

And Maybank still doesn’t charge any fees?
