Public transportation in New Orleans

Hi there, We’d like to explore New Orleans on our own. Travel agencies keep pushing car rentals, but we’d rather get around using public transportation. Any tips would be much appreciated! Chantal

Public Transport in New Orleans

Sorry, this isn’t an answer, but is there a reason to prefer public transport? Renting a car and driving in the US is really straightforward.

For NOLA, you can indeed get around easily using public transport within the city, but as soon as you leave New Orleans, the points of interest in Louisiana are pretty much "in the middle of nowhere," so a car becomes essential.

For parking, you can find reasonably priced options in downtown NOLA (and there’s also free parking on nearby streets close to the historic center). In other cities or places of interest, parking is usually free.

Plus, having a car lets you stay at hotels on the outskirts, which are often cheaper.

Sorry again for this non-answer—it’s basically a love letter to personal vehicles, contrary to your request!
