The Balearic Islands in a camper van

Hi, We're planning to go to the Balearic Islands in a camper van in January. We're looking for great tips for the ferry crossing: Sète or Barcelona? Is the weather nice in January? Are 20 days enough? Is wild camping allowed? Are there service areas? Thanks for your info. Have a nice day, Michel

Good evening, I’m also planning to visit the three Balearic Islands in a van, but a bit later in the season—March, April, May. I’d love to hear any tips or info too. Have a great evening, Jean

Hi there, visiting the Balearic Islands in January is a bit risky! It can be sunny, but it’ll be chilly. It’s a shame to pick this destination in winter. June would be better, or even September.

Hi, We visited Mallorca for this year’s spring break. We took the ferry from Barcelona and arrived in Palma. There are very few—if any—designated camper van areas. We used the Park4Night app for tips. If you need any specific info, feel free to ask! Cheers,

Marie Paule

Hi there, Thanks for your reply—have you run into any issues with parking, like the police or locals giving you a hard time? Have a great evening! Jean

Hi there, Thanks for your reply. Did you have any issues with parking—did the police or locals say anything to you? Have a good evening, Jean

Hello, No issues with the locals or the police (didn’t see many of them). We used the parking spots and locations listed on Park4Night without any problems. The only real challenges were how narrow most of the roads are, especially with a 7-meter camper van that’s 2.35 meters wide, and the large groups of cyclists. Just a heads-up: water supplies are scarce, and dump stations are even harder to find. For "black water," we use the Flexaport system, which gives us great autonomy. Cheers,

Marie Paule

Good evening, Thanks for all this information. I’ll fill up before boarding and be careful to produce as little grey water as possible. I’m traveling in a Van Marco Polo—it’s 5.15 m long and 1.95 m wide, so it’s a big vehicle, but its size should make getting around easier. I plan to settle in and explore the islands by bike for convenience. Safe travels ahead! Jean
