17-day itinerary: Québec, Gaspésie, and Saguenay

Cathymunster · 2024-10-31

Hi there,

We’re heading to Québec from July 7 to 24, 2025, and we’d love some advice on our itinerary. We’re flying in and out of Montréal and want to visit Montréal, Québec City, Parc de la Gaspésie, and the Saguenay Fjord. What do you think would be the best route to make the most of these spots without racking up too many kilometers each day? Thanks in advance for your help! Catherine

Hi Catherine,

If you use the search engine, you should find tons of information about your upcoming trip to Québec and the best spots or routes.

Once you’ve put together a preliminary itinerary, just share it here to get some feedback. Don’t forget to mention your interests or what you’re looking for.

Since VF is in a relaunch phase, you might need to be a little patient for the regulars to chime in. Otherwise, I suggest sending a direct message to VF members—like Les Caribous, for example, who were always generous with advice and had great tips.

Happy planning! :)

I did a trip to Quebec in August 2024. The route is straightforward for you: Montreal, Tadoussac/Saguenay Fjord, ferry crossing to Gaspésie, then Quebec City, and back to Montreal to finish. Nothing complicated.

Northern gannets in Bonaventure.

Hi there, Any reliable car rental agency open on Sundays until 9 PM at Montreal Airport? Recommendations? Where to stay in the Montreal area?

Thanks! 🙁

Hi Catherine, I’m also in the middle of planning a three-week trip for September/October 2025. Thanks for sharing your research. For my part, there’ll be two of us—newly retired and keen to do a self-drive tour covering the same regions, maybe with Ottawa and Mont Tremblant added in. Any info is welcome: places to visit, accommodations, car rental. Do we need to book all our accommodations in advance? That’s a lot of questions, and I hope the many contributors on this forum can help answer them. Thanks in advance to everyone! Gilles

Message for Cathy and Gilles.

In both cases, it’s best to book your accommodations before you leave. Cathy, it’s pretty obvious since you’ll be traveling in the middle of the summer season. As for Gilles, September and October have become popular months for North American retirees—including Quebecers—to travel.

Hi, Quick question: when you write "Fjord du Saguenay," which specific spot are you thinking of? I’m guessing you’re planning to do the full Gaspésie loop and not just the Gaspésie Park. A Montréal - Gaspésie Tour - Montréal loop is a good 2,000 km, so just that alone, I’d say you should plan for at least 2 weeks in my humble opinion.

Hi there! Personally, I’ve planned four days in Gaspésie starting from Rimouski. The driving legs are around 250 km each—do you think that’s reasonable and doable? After that, we’ll cross over and head toward Saguenay. During our three-week trip, I’ve planned legs of 180 to 250 km max.

In my humble opinion, 4 days in Gaspésie is really too little! And generally, when you "tackle" Gaspésie, you might as well do the whole loop!

I agree with Bauhaus on the idea that you’re proposing an itinerary to the forum members—it’ll make it easier for us to help you afterward.

Just a little tip: start a new post because otherwise, it might get complicated compared to Cathymunster’s original post. 😛
