Going after all? Anyway, route’s ready, packing almost done. Route fine-tuned, GPX files and maps sorted. Accommodations scouted (pricey!), so tent it is... May 2025? Can’t wait.

thanks Yeah, but sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs So we have to come back to reality and scale back But the dream lives on First leg done (route already known)

postponed again to June 2025, due to a bit of weakness feeling tired after watching the Classics on TV a few local rides instead and... gardening (zucchini and potatoes)

Mimi to Renato, and off we go, straight up the steep climb to tackle the col du mont ceniso, 1,700 m higher... The stretch through Novalesa was a bit painful, but stunning with those full-faced mountains and beautiful sunshine. Then I caught up with my biker friends speeding along the classic route. Didn’t see many cyclists. How long and far the road feels, Dad—I’m thinking of you now, the one who worked there in the 1960s, along with my uncles and so many Italian workers. Finally, here’s the lake we follow for a few km. The descent is fast and beautiful—Lanslebourg passed without a hitch. We choose the route through Aussois, at the cost of a few extra climbs, and this time, we’re overtaken by lots of foreign cyclists. Modane is particularly ugly, as is the grumpy baker, but hunger forces me to stop there.

We take the detour for the landslide, adding 150 m of elevation that Claudio could’ve done without. Bivouac in St Michel de Maurienne, at the same hotel as the UAE cycling team.
