Choosing between Ko Chang or Ko Kood in Thailand

Hi everyone, great to be back here. In 10 days, we're heading to Thailand to escape the gloomy weather here and warm up our old bones over there. On the southeast coast, we're torn between Ko Chang and Ko Kood—we're looking for tranquility and the chance to do some snorkeling along the coast. Do you have any great tips for accommodation (max 30 €)? Maybe we should head straight to the southwest coast instead. Thanks for your input!

Hi there, between the islands of Chang or Kood for snorkeling, there aren’t any truly stunning beach dives, but a few do exist, so it’s tough to decide between them. Koh Chang is much easier to get around if you’re not opting for a scooter. Koh Kood is far less crowded. For hotels under 30 €, breakfast won’t be included—the prices go up quickly at the end of the year. Using a platform like Trivago will help you sort through options. Enjoy your trip to Thailand

Don’t expect fantastic weather. Between sunshine and passing showers, it’s not really the best season. End of the rainy season. Then in December, it gets cooler with some wind.

For 10 days, I’d do 5 days on Koh Chang and 5 on Koh Kood.

It’s not peak season yet, so accommodation is easy to find

You’ve had two good answers. For the split, I’d lean more toward 6/4 or 7/3.

Hi Nadege, thanks for your feedback. As an experienced biker, is it really difficult to get around Ko Chang on two wheels?

Hi Arthur, thanks for your reply. I thought it was the start of the good season—what do you mean by "cooler"? Colder? And what about the other side of the Gulf of Thailand? We’re staying in this beautiful country for over a month. Best,

The best season is the dry season because the rainy season ends around early/mid-November. It’s not exactly colder, but less hot, less stifling.

What exactly do you mean by "the other side of the Gulf of Thailand" (because *golf* is the little white ball you put in holes)?

November is a bit of a gamble, let's say it's a lottery month.

The weather can be so-so or nice on Koh Chang and the coast, same goes for the Andaman Sea side (Phuket, Lanta, Lipe...).

But we avoid the Gulf of Siam around Samui, Phangan, Tao.

On Koh Chang, there’s often a cool breeze in the mornings and evenings in December (probably late November too). The sea isn’t very warm.

In November/December, I much prefer the Andaman Sea, but Koh Chang is still nice—I’ve been there several times in early December. That said, like Koh Lanta, you can get tired of it quickly.

On Lanta, like Koh Chang, the east coast is more pleasant—more nature and less touristy.

Hi Jojo, sorry 😊 for the typo, but I think you understood me—I was referring to Ko Samui and co. Cheers.

Samui, from September through December is the rainy season. Often, this season isn’t as problematic as you might think. That said, I can’t promise anything about sea conditions or rainfall.

Hello Nadege, thanks for your feedback. As an experienced motorcyclist, is it really difficult to get around Ko Chang on two wheels?

I think we didn’t quite understand each other—on Koh Kood, you *need* a scooter to get around because there are almost no other options, whereas on Koh Chang, there are songthaews (shared taxis) that run along the island’s main road. Current weather in Koh Chang: sunny until 3 PM, then rain around 5 PM

The bad season on Samui starts from late October until December... and sometimes extends into January. The weather has been pretty unpredictable in recent years.
