Weather in August in the western region of California (San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite...)

Hi there,

We’re planning a road trip in August 2025 to the cities and places mentioned in the title. What’s the weather like, and especially how hot does it get? From what I’ve read, it’s less intense than the "eastern" part we did this year in 2024 (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Death Valley, etc.). Can you confirm that for me?

Thanks for your tips!

In August, it'll definitely be better in San Francisco, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe since they're further north and at higher elevations for the last two. At Lake Tahoe, it might even get chilly at night.

Yosemite will be the warmest spot, but I think it's totally manageable.

If you head to Lake Tahoe, I’d recommend a side trip to Virginia City—it’s not too far away.

Hi there, In San Francisco, there’ll be morning fog, and it might not be warm at all. It’s a really unique microclimate.

Lake Tahoe and Yosemite are on the eastern side compared to the western side (the coast). Did you mean you want to compare the south and north of California?
