Family Trip Itinerary in China

Hi everyone.

I’m planning our upcoming family trip to China in August 2025—two adults, two kids (11 and 13), and a one-year-old baby.

As I organize the trip, I’d love your advice. Here’s my itinerary: - Arrival in Beijing on 02/08, staying until 07/08 (five days) to visit the city’s must-see spots without rushing too much with the baby. - After that, either by train or plane, we’ll head to Shenzhen for four days to explore the city and enjoy some attractions with the kids. - Then, Yangshuo for three days to relax a bit from the city hustle and visit the Li River and its surroundings. I haven’t looked into transportation from Shenzhen yet, but I think it’s easily accessible. - Our last day in China will be in Guangzhou (Canton). If possible, I’d like to visit the Huangteng Gorge Skywalk on the same day, or add an extra day for it. I don’t want to do a private tour because it’s extremely expensive, so any great tips combining train/taxi are welcome.

Hello, if you're in Guangzhou, to get to Sky Bridge (which I don’t know), just so you know, taxis aren’t expensive at all and you can negotiate the fare. For example, I paid 50 € for a 100 km ride, tolls included!

China is a destination rich in discoveries and experiences, and your itinerary seems well thought out to balance cultural visits, fun activities, and relaxation time. In Beijing, there’s plenty to do, including the Great Wall of China. Some sections aren’t suitable for kids at all (see the different sections of the Great Wall).

You can also visit the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Hutongs, and the Summer Palace.

For Yangshuo, I recommend the Liu Sanjie show (check if your child can stay "calm" for the duration). You can also explore the rice terraces in Guilin, the Reed Flute Cave, bike rides along the Yulong or Li River, hike up Xiangong Hill, and visit tea plantations...

Hi, Thanks for your reply and recommendations. I only have 3 days in Yangshuo, so I don’t think I’ll be able to visit Guilin. I’d rather the family relaxes in a hotel with a pool and explores the surrounding area. After Yangshuo, I haven’t decided yet. I have 5 days and I’m torn between Shenzhen or Guangzhou. I want to visit the electronics market and the shopping malls in Shenzhen. On the other hand, I think Guangzhou is a pretty city that’s worth visiting. Plus, I think the Skaywalk Glass Bridge is more accessible from Guangzhou. Or should I stay in one city and visit the other for a day (by train)?
