Cheap flights to Tokyo

Hi everyone,
Need some fresh advice, please.
I’m planning a trip to Japan for late February/early March 2025.
A friend who usually travels there often used to fly from Marseille (yes, really) with round-trip tickets for around 500-odd euros to Tokyo—something that’s impossible to find now. Her last trip was just two months ago.
Any tips, please?
I already know flights magically get more expensive on weekends, but I’m looking for tips to find fares under 900 € per person...
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
The issue with your dates is that it's the start of cherry blossom season in Japan, so it's peak travel time. With climate change, it's getting earlier and earlier.
The cheapest fares are around 670 to 700 € with one layover in Asia from Paris. From Marseille, expect around 800 € with one layover in Asia.

No, cherry blossom season is actually late March to early April—about a full month later. Yes, global warming means the blossoms are appearing a little earlier, but not *that* early.
Late February to early March is the season for early-blooming cherry trees (different species, and far fewer of them), and it's still a relatively quiet period. The real rush starts about three weeks later.

Late February to early March isn’t really peak season, to say the least.
And it’s the plum trees that are in bloom...

We were in Japan during these dates this year and last year. I’ve been going to Japan since 2009, two to three times a year, and I’ve noticed that cherry blossoms are starting earlier and earlier. At the beginning of March, we were already seeing some blooms, and by the end of March, almost everything had already fallen. The Japanese people we spoke to said it’s happening earlier every year.

It was supposed to officially start around March 15th this year, but it actually began on March 6th—we were surprised, even though it’s earlier every year. I can confirm that during these dates, prices are much higher for flights over the summer as well as hotels. Try searching for flights around early March with a return around late March, then compare with a search for May/June, and you’ll see the difference.

Hello Atara,
I share your concerns about the rising cost of flights since the end of the COVID pandemic.
Right now, it's hard to enjoy the pleasure of connecting with the world through travel because of the high prices charged by different airlines!
Fortunately, there’s an alternative—I’d love to share it with you and help you take advantage of this amazing opportunity if you haven’t booked your flight tickets yet.
Feel free to contact me if you’d like!
Hi,
