Choosing Accommodations in Guadeloupe

Hi there,

We need your help—we’ve decided to go to Guadeloupe for our honeymoon. We’ve been offered three different places but we’re struggling to choose. We’d love your input on the location of each accommodation and your opinions if you’ve stayed there. Carib Bay, Deshaies Les Galets Rouges, Bouillante Le Cocotel, Saint-François We’ll be there for 9 days and 7 nights in February, and we’ll have a rental car.

Thanks in advance for all the tips on activities, dining, and even shopping!

I don’t know if it still exists—this was back in 2016—but I had a dream stay in St François at the Amaudo Hotel. Not cheap, obviously, but absolutely stunning. Hope this helps...

Hi there. I’d recommend spending a few days in Basse-Terre and a few near Sainte-Anne. Since you’ve got a car, this’ll save you from crisscrossing the island multiple times—traffic jams are pretty bad, especially in the late afternoon, and there’s still a fair distance between the two sides. If you’re staying at a hotel, go for half-board in the evening; during the day, take the chance to explore both sides of this gorgeous island. Have a great trip!

hi there I’m leaving this Monday the 18th for Guadeloupe for 15 days, and based on the reviews and the excursions and hikes to do on the island, I’ve decided on a place in Saint-François and another in Bouillante. For me, it’s rentals with locals, but splitting my stay between two spots—plus having my own wheels—seems like a smart move. cheers

Hi there, For a first-time 8-day trip to Guadeloupe, you can mix accommodations in DESHAIES on Basse-Terre and in St François or St Anne on Grande-Terre. This way, you’ll avoid the traffic jams between the two "wings" of the butterfly. If you go for hotels, opt for half-board or prioritize rentals to have more freedom—and it’s cheaper too. For a honeymoon trip, you could spend part of your stay at Tendacayou, which is a beautiful place located in the hills of the Deshaies commune, offering a lovely view of the sea and some neighboring islands.
