Entry requirements for Tunisia with your own vehicle

Hi, What are the entry conditions for Tunisia by boat with your own vehicle? I’ve read on several forums that you need to have a hotel reservation for the first night—or even for the entire stay—or they’ll send you back on the boat.

The regulations don’t explicitly require it, but it’s definitely recommended to have at least the first night of your hotel booked. It clearly "reassures" the authorities and helps avoid issues with overly zealous agents...

We were in Tunisia in September with three 4x4s. No reservation was required at the border, and if they ask, you need to write "itinerant travel." They did ask where we were going, so I showed them my Michelin map with our route highlighted in fluorescent marker, and they noted the general outline. No other issues.
