The New VoyageForum

Anapodz · 2024-11-21

Hi there,

Thanks for letting me know about the launch of the new VoyageForum.

I just want to say that I hope this fresh start has helped get rid of those rude people who thought they knew everything about every topic and would attack (and sometimes insult) participants who didn’t agree with them.

It was starting to feel like social media, where everyone thinks their own posts are the most accurate and truthful, and it was getting really tiresome—especially when all we really want to do is talk about travel.

So, my hope is that there’ll now be stricter moderation of exchanges between travelers.

Good luck with this new beginning!

Hi Alice,

Thanks for your message. πŸ™‚

I just wanted to say that I hope this fresh start has made those rude know-it-alls who used to attack (and sometimes insult) participants who disagreed with them disappear.

I hate to disappoint you, but most of those members are already back on the site... πŸ˜‰ That’s just forum life for you... Some members we like, others really get on our nerves... πŸ˜‰

Everyone thinks their own posts are the most accurate and truthful, and it became tiresome, especially when all we want to do is talk about travel.

Don’t you think what you’re saying in your message above is also accurate and truthful...? πŸ˜‰

So, my hope is that there will now be stricter moderation of exchanges between travelers.

What do you mean by “stricter moderation”? Closing accounts (we do that sometimes, but most come back under a different account...), deleting posts? Censoring everything as soon as a member thinks they’re right or gets on our nerves...? People used to say we were too strict before the shutdown... It’s all about perspective... The person whose posts get deleted cries censorship, while others cheer the removal of those same posts.

If you’re looking for a uniform forum where everyone thinks the same, expresses themselves politely, and without any tension or disagreement, sorry, but after running VoyageForum for over 20 years, I can assure you that’s completely impossible. VoyageForum is like any family—heated, passionate, and sometimes irritating exchanges are inevitable (though there are limits not to cross). And just like in any family, there’s always one or two who annoy us more than the others...

That said, thanks again for your message, and welcome back to VoyageForum...! πŸ™‚

Best regards,

François, founder of VoyageForum

Good evening, Funny, your message. πŸ˜‡ After quickly skimming through your hundred or so public posts, it appears that around 70% of them are in the "Thoughts" section. Yet this section makes up less than 2% of the forum’s posts and is, by nature, a place for contradictions with the risks that come with it. Hope I’ve stayed polite... πŸ™‚

I have nothing but praise for VF’s response—it’s spot-on. I’d add that we’re often struck by the moments when disagreements come up and tend to forget all the times when exchanges happen and you can read genuinely positive things.

I smiled at Voyajou’s reply, which had a touch of mischief, but I really want to highlight this: in your travel-section posts, you’ve almost always provided information to other members. There are plenty of others who could take a page from your book. It’s really to your credit, and I’m happy to say it.

At the risk of disappointing you, most of these members have already returned to the site... πŸ˜‰ That’s kinda how forum life goes... Some members we love, others get on our nerves big time... πŸ˜‰

Thanks for this great moment! πŸ˜‰ I had the same thought!! But hey, FranΓ§ois, I hope you’re not counting me in that number 😎

Can I name some usernames to see if we thought of the same ones? Nope, just kidding! πŸ˜‰
