Hello, My wife and I are planning a 15-day trip to Cambodia. Could you share some itinerary ideas with us? Thanks

Hi Alain,

What time of year are you planning to visit Cambodia? Depending on the climate and heat, some destinations might be better to prioritize or, on the contrary, avoid. For example, during the intense heat of March-April-May, it can be nice to spend a few days on the southern islands or in the hills of Mondolkiri. Whereas at the peak of the rainy season, beach destinations can be disappointing. For me, there’s one must-see destination, and that’s obviously Angkor and its temples. For that, you’ll need to spend a few days in Siem Reap (e.g., 3 days visiting the temples, with a day trip to Phnom Kulen or one of the floating villages or stilt villages on Tonlé Sap Lake). A stop in the capital is also a classic (2 days are enough for me, but I’m not a big fan of Phnom Penh). West of Tonlé Sap Lake, Battambang is popular with tourists, especially for its countryside. One idea could be to land in PP (2 days), head to Battambang (2 days), then continue to Siem Reap (4 days, with the option—depending on the season—to make the trip by boat through the floating villages), and then take an overnight bus to the south and the islands. Either SR - Kampot or SR - Sihanoukville to catch a boat to the Koh Rong islands the next morning. The two can be combined: 3 days in Kampot + Kep, 3 days on an island, and you’ve already hit 14 days, and you still need to get back to PP for your return flight. Another option: from SR, head to the Mekong in Kampong Cham or Kratie, both have their charm (personally, I prefer Kampong Cham) for 2 days or even 3 if you want to see both, then continue to Sen Monorom in Mondolkiri in the eastern hills near Vietnam (2-3 days). After that, it’s a 6-hour minibus ride back to PP.

If you prefer to travel at a relaxed pace, then a week in Siem Reap (there’s a lot to see beyond the temples), 3 days in Phnom Penh, and the remaining 4 days for another stop (Battambang, Kampot, or Kampong Cham/Kratie) not too far from these two destinations.

Have a great trip! !

Hi Erwanploz, Thanks for your reply! We’re thinking of traveling from 02/05 to 02/19. I was looking at this itinerary... Arrival and 2 days in Phnom Penh Bus to Siem Reap for 3/4 days Ferry to Koh Rong for 3/4 days And Mondulkiri What do you think?

It seems pretty complicated to combine Koh Rong and Mondolkiri—you’d spend at least a full day just traveling: a boat back to Sihanoukville, a bus to PP, then a minivan to Sen Monorom, with waiting time at every transfer...

Unless you split your time in PP, visiting once on the first day and again to break up the trip between Koh Rong and Mondolkiri?

What would you recommend after Koh Rong

I’d recommend Kampot and Kep instead—they’re in the same southern area as Koh Rong and Phnom Penh.

Hi there! Look into flying directly into SR—they just opened a new airport. Then Phnom Penh and Koh Rong, which’ll save you some travel time.
