Southern Lake Nicaragua

Hi everyone, To get from San Juan del Sur to San Carlos and the San Juan River, do we really have to go all the way around the lake, head back up to Managua, and then come back down the east side? Isn’t there a small road after Colón? Can’t we take a little ferry that connects Colón to the Solentiname Islands? Honestly, that’d be a huge time-saver... The shortest route is to go through Costa Rica to reach San Carlos.

No, I’m not there right now—I know both spots... but if you don’t want to go all the way around the lake, just cross into Costa Rica. It’s not complicated at all. You can go around the southern part of the lake to San Carlos... Otherwise, fly from Managua to San Carlos by plane...

I’m replying because this conversation interests me too... Honestly, there’s no issue with going through Costa Rica, but I don’t think the bus routes offer that option... and we won’t have a car either...

Yes, there is a bus that goes along the road by the border. Just don’t be in a hurry, though.
