Stained Passport for the United States

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to the community with a quick question. I’m leaving for the United States soon and don’t have time to renew my passport. However, there are some pretty visible ink stains on the edges of the pages, but the page with my identity info is completely clean. Only the immigration officer will be able to tell you for sure! But I’ve been in a similar situation before (red ink on my passport + a photo that was slightly peeling), and I didn’t have any issues. Before my trip, I asked French customs about it, and they told me it should be fine (which it was), but they also warned me not to try cleaning or re-gluing anything in the passport—because that could look like tampering and raise suspicion. I followed their advice, and I had no trouble entering the US.
