Which destination for New Year's Eve accessible by car: Prague or Zurich?

We’re heading to Alsace as a couple right after Christmas for 4 days. After that, we’d like to continue east by car to spend New Year’s Eve there.

We’re torn between Prague and Zurich. Which one would you recommend? In terms of driving convenience (distance isn’t an issue for us), things to see, and overall vibe. I’ve read, for example, that Czechs aren’t very welcoming, and it’s really important for us to have a good connection with the locals. On the other hand, I’m worried Zurich might be less interesting to visit...

Maybe you have other city suggestions?

hi Prague, I’d say without a second thought. Plus, Zurich’s really expensive from what I’ve heard as a city; the flip side is that Prague is definitely more touristy than Zurich.

First observation: no matter where you go, this isn’t a great time to travel or visit. Some places are closed, restaurants are booked up, or have restricted hours. I’ve always found this period depressing for traveling. As for the vibe with the locals—wherever you are—there’s not much to expect, in my opinion. Zurich is a bit of an odd choice; everything there is *very* expensive. Prague is true to itself—overrun with tourists, but it’s a party-hearty, impersonal kind of tourism. If you’re set on going somewhere, I’d lean toward a German city instead. At least there’s some local atmosphere, fireworks, and a big city with tourist appeal. So... Berlin or Munich.
