Hi everyone,
We’re planning a two-week trip to Borneo, mainly for the wildlife. Do you have any recent experiences or itineraries to suggest? We don’t want to rent a car and are thinking of using public transport, and possibly flights if needed while we’re there. We’re torn between May and June. Thanks for your help! Best, Chantal

Which side of Borneo, since it covers several regions and 2 countries? I only know Sarawak in Malaysia.

Sorry for the late reply—it wasn’t flagged for me, and this is the first time I’ve logged back in since my question.
Actually, we’re planning to land in Kuching and head up to the Sabah region. If you’ve got any tips or info, I’d love to hear them.

The Kuching area with Bako Park is nice—I really liked Mulu Park too (you can only get there by plane). Here’s the travel journal from my trip to Borneo; it might help you out.

I’ve read several times that getting around is tricky because there’s little info on buses and few people speak English. Do you share that feeling?

Hi there,
If you stick to Sarawak and Sabah, everyone speaks English, so that’s not an issue.
As for buses, there are several between the major cities, but it’s trickier in the countryside. Your best bet is to head straight to the bus station.

If you stay in Sarawak and Sabah, everyone speaks English, so that’s not a problem.
As for buses, there are several between the major cities, but it’s trickier in the countryside. The best thing is to go directly to the bus station.
