Which countries are flown over between Paris and Hanoi?

Hi there,
It varies depending on conflicts like Russia-Ukraine. The Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Israel)
And it also depends on the airline.
All European airlines are banned from flying over Russia, but Chinese airlines can still do so.
For a European airline: France, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam.

Thanks for your reply. We’re flying with Vietnam Airlines. The recent events are chilling, but it doesn’t change anything. Ch2

Hi there,
If your flight is direct from Paris to Hanoi, and you're flying with AF or Vietnam Airlines—it’s the same plane—you can rely on the route from December 27th:
France - Luxembourg - Germany - Czech Republic - Slovakia - Hungary - Romania - Black Sea (Turkey zone) - Georgia - Azerbaijan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India - Bangladesh - Myanmar - Laos - Vietnam.
Flying over the Georgia-Azerbaijan corridor and seeing the lights of Tbilisi and Baku at night, especially in the evening, is a common highlight and one of the pleasures of these flights.
If you're departing from Brussels, Frankfurt, or Amsterdam, the route shouldn’t be too different.
Though, with a layover in Jeddah or Helsinki, I can’t say for sure...

From Paris, it flies over Luxembourg?! Never seen that on any flights to Southeast Asia.

Hi,
The route shown on FlightAware for this flight on December 27th passed right over Luxembourg when I checked it.
I might’ve imagined it, though.
Not sure how accurate it is, and not sure it even matters anyway.
🙂

A flight plan is always filed for the shortest possible route, except when avoiding conflict zones or countries that deny overflight rights to certain airlines. That’s the case with Russia right now.
I spent 20 years in the Roissy CDG control tower, and I never once routed a flight toward Montmédy (the exit point for Luxembourg) for a flight heading to Southeast Asia!

I spent 20 years of my life in the Roissy CDG control tower and I never gave a route toward Montmédy (exit point for Luxembourg) to a flight heading to Southeast Asia!
I don’t know.
It’s possible I ultimately plotted a different flight than the one from CDG.
For the rest of the route, and the purpose of this discussion, I think it doesn’t change anything.

Hi,
You probably tracked a different flight (or there was a VIP on your CDG-Hanoi flight who wanted to fly over Luxembourg 😛)
One sure way to know exactly which countries are overflown is to check out this link Christianede mentioned:

(credit where it's due—I just pulled up the link from the site you referenced!!)

You probably tracked a different flight (or maybe there was a VIP on your CDG-Hanoi flight who wanted to fly over Luxembourg)
But that’s exactly what shows up on all the CDG/HAN flight paths from flightaware.com!
There must be a reason for this that I don’t know.

Thanks for the reply, but what I really wanted to know was which dangerous countries this flight flies over. Nothing to do with Luxembourg.
