Bed bugs on Turkish Airlines

This "information" has indeed been circulating in online media for a few days now. Well... In my opinion, you can occasionally find bedbugs on any airline, and I don’t see why Turkish Airlines would be spared. From experience, I actually came across a bedbug—not on a Turkish Airlines flight, but on a business lounge seat in Istanbul. It’s clear that this can happen in places where you stay or wait, as well as in all forms of transportation.

The first alert was issued in March 2024. Others followed after that. A maintenance intervention lasting between 2 to 5 days in a maintenance base is necessary to "clean" the plane. The cost is between $75,000 and $125,000. This probably explains it all

Turkish is far from the only airline affected by this issue, and as of today, there’s no evidence that bed bugs can be found on Turkish Airlines flights. Anyway, bed bugs in transportation are just "passing through" and are mainly brought in by passengers!! A bed bug can’t survive "long-term" on a plane (except maybe in business class lie-flat seats 😜).

But most importantly, beware of the panic that some media outlets are about to stir up—we’re nowhere near a bed bug infestation in transportation (unlike what the *New York Times* claims in their reference article...)
