Rainy season in Namibia: March–April 2025
Zelda1512 · 2025-01-05
Hi everyone, I’m heading to Namibia from March 20 to April 7 (Kalahari, Tok Tokkie Trail, Sossusvlei, Spitzkoppe, Twyfelfontein, and Etosha). I was wondering if the rainy season has started and whether it’s expected to be heavy?
Also, if anyone has traveled there during this period, I’d love to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Yes, we're right in the middle of the rainy season, and it's heavy. Unfortunately, at these latitudes, it's either not enough or too much... but we're not at the end of March yet.😉
Having said that, the period you've chosen is always a bit risky—if the rainy season runs a little late, boom, you'll be right in it.
That said, your destinations shouldn’t be too much of an issue, except maybe in the Damaraland if you venture off the main road or in Sesriem if there are flash floods. The north (Opuwo, Epupa, etc.) could also be problematic.
In Etosha, the animals might not be as visible since there’s water everywhere—they don’t need to go to the waterholes.
On the bright side, you’ll see lush nature, and even if you spot fewer animals, they’ll be in great shape and active, so some amazing scenes to look forward to 🙂

I traveled during this period.
No issues except for a big evening storm, but extremely few animals in Etosha.
