Douro River Cruise (Portugal)

Hi, We’d like to take a simple river cruise on the Douro! Onboard entertainment and bus excursions don’t appeal to us. CroisiEurope, etc., wouldn’t suit us. Any other suggestions??? Thanks

All Douro cruises operate more or less the same way. Personally, I did it with Croisieurope. You lose a lot of time sailing during the day, and you quickly get tired of the riverbanks. At stops, you rush around by bus (I don’t see how you can avoid buses if you're on a cruise). There’s also the risk that the Douro might be too low or, on the contrary, that there’s too much current, so the program gets cut short in favor of buses. My opinion is that it’d be much more interesting by car, where you can discover small villages like here in Covelinhas, where we stumbled upon a vet’s visit (after giving up on the bus excursion).
